3 bolt Rear differential interchangable?

for my 2g awd DSM can i throw in any 3 bolt differential on it from any year its on? is LCD rear differential a bolt on if mine doesnt have one?

They are different on early and late 1Gs so should be different for you too.

Inboard CV joints are different between 92+ LSD and non-LSD, pre-92 LSD joints are different again. I have not seen pre-92 non-LSD joints.

To fit an OEM LSD to a non-LSD car you need to swap rear axles as well - the inner CV joints cannot be swapped between axles as the axle shafts have a different pitch spline on the inboard end, so the axles have to be swapped as assemblies.

Kaaz or Cusco Evolution I/II/III rear LSDs can be fitted into the non-LSD housing and work with the non-LSD axles. The Kaaz runs about $750, don't know the cost of the Cusco.

Part numbers for the rear diff assembly are different between 1Gs and 2Gs, so they probably will not interchange.
