3-4g's Eclipse and the EVO's

Point taken i can respect that brian if i knew that my car wasn't turbo when i bought i wouldn't have bought or that turboing it would be harder than all hell i wouldn't have bought it. But the evo's don't they have the 4g63 engines in them that was there power house and thats what made the evo brand so import am i wrong on any of my info here? (not being smart just asking a qeustion)

well the evos have the same 4g s as we do till th 4th. then they turned it 180degrees. then with the evo ten they went with the 4b11. so im not sure were your getting your info but not be a smartass but id do some more reading. again i wasnt trying to dog on you with the 420a remark

The reason that Mitsubishi took the 4g63T out of the eclipse's is probably because something like 11% of total sales per year was AWD models.(Don't quote that percentage) all I know for sure is it was way lower than all the other models.
So they brought the EVO's over here and they sell the crap out of them.
For some reason the market buyers seem to like the 4 door AWD cars a lot better.

I understand why it seems dumb, but don't they sell way more EVO's than GSX's and TSI's ever did?

I'm trying to understand what this thread is truly about. I can't. I really don't get what you're talking about, O.P.. And a lot of people work and go to school. I did just that for 4 years. That's no excuse to use grammar of a 2nd grader.

I have a 4g Eclipse GS for a daily driver. It's a wonderful car. Full of quality for a Mitsu. It's much more "sophisticated". However, it's piss-slow.

Why not check out the 3g and 4g boards to see what's going on in their world? There's a few of 4g 3.8s doing 13s with bolt-ons. The 4gs are very refined from any previous Eclipses. They have nowhere near the potential as our cars have, but they're good drivers. They don't feel like a cheap Japanese car anymore.

Go test-drive one. Find out for yourself. I'm on one 4g board, and there are some decent cars. But the vast majority of the members are complete young, ricer and stupid kids; however, there are a few good ones. There's literally a handful of quick 4g V6s. And I didn't see any of them in the 12s. Yet one of their mods told me their V6s are better than our 4g63s. Like I said, they're complete idiots.

And, yes, the Evo took our wind away. It doesn't matter. At the rate those cars are being owned and destroyed by teenage-owners, they won't be mighty in the masses they are now when they start breaking-down.

I drove a few 3gs and hated them. It was a 5-speed, manual. No thanks. But the 4g is much nicer. I would never want to 'mod' my 4g, really. It's great for a daily. I'll do small things to it. Like a K&N drop-in, lowering-springs, wheel & tires. Maybe a sway-bar. Just things to make it look better and more fun to drive. Nothing to take away from the reliability like a half-ass turbo-kit or nitrous.

Let me give you an example of the 4th gen guys. Here's one of their "mod lists" in his sig: Weight Reduction (Spare tire, Back seats, 1/2-1/4 gas always, Wiper fluid very low). Pioneer 5ways in the back and 4ways in the front, Pioneer HU. BLUE Painted front seats (back plastic part), Engine Bay parts. Throttle Body Bypass. Fujita CAI, Toyo T1R tires

If you want a frank answer to your question, all of their new cars, including the Evo, are sub-par because they have absolutely no money left to design a proper car. MHI just bailed them out for the very, very last time. They were told that if they can't manage to turn their car operations around very soon, they will force the automotive division out of business. If you go sample one of their cars (any of them), the quality is clearly not up-to-par with any other major manufacturer.

Well The Eclipse Never came with 286 Horse power stock either.... not to mention The Eclipse was selling the 90's (before the whole Fast ans Furious import Craze....Trust me Bro, If mitsu would have made a badass 290 horse power turbo AWD Eclipse in 2003 Im sure it would have sold like hot cakes. They missed out, and let all these lil turbo neons and cobalts take the show over.

Honestly, for the sake of the argument, you have to look at it from a business perspective. If Mitsubishi can upsize the Eclipse and make it more upscale, ditch the boy racer stuff and sell more of them of course they'd do it. They're in it to make money, not neccessarily exciting cars. Since we're just tuner fan-boys, a tiny niche in the market that probably wouldn't end up buying a new tuner car we're sour about it all.

With that being said, the 3G Eclipse isn't all a bad car, it's not fair to compare it to our DSMs, I like to compare it to a base Lancer. The 4G64 is just a 2G exhaust mani a T25 turbo, downpipe, and other bits away from being a capable performer. And don't be so sour to the EVO either, you have to think of it like Mitsu created the EVO in the shadow of what the DSM created, passing the torch onto the next generation of turbo AWD machines.

Mitsubishi is selling more, and putting more effort into, a 4 door car, because it applies to a much larger audience, as well as are much more capable, and stronger than an Eclipse. How many Eclipses' do you see on the road? How many Evo's do you see? Right, they could make an awd version of the Eclipse, but what for? They have something much better in an Evo.

Google doesn't have the opinions of every person in our community. It's not always the answer. WTF

I don't know what's like where you're from, but here in Chicago, before the Evo came, DSMs were at the top with Supras. DSMs were one for the most feared and sought after import. The vast majority were clean, fast and well-built. Then when the Evo came, a lot of people lost interest in DSMs. They moved on, grew up, etc. Currently, the majority of DSMs in our area are truly sad examples of what they once were not even a decade ago.

Now all you see here are rich kids driving in Mommy-Daddy racing Evos built by AMS acting like Ferraris are lunch-meat. It changed... fast. There's still very nice & fast DSMs here, but that number dropped. I've had my DSM before Evos were here, and I've been into the whole 'import thing' since '99 with my S13. So I've seen a lot of over the last 10 years.

Some of you are also missing key issues as to why the EVOs sell better than the GSX/TSi AWD ever did.

The GSX and the EVO are actually VERY close in price when it comes to their original sale price, around $30k (the original sticker price on my RS was over $22k) If you consider the average person that can afford a car at $30k+ you'll find that tends to be people that are a little older and often have families in mind. Also, consider the average price of cars back in the 90's it was much lower. Mitsu priced themselves out of the game at that time. This was also during the rise of the urban assult vechicles and EVERYONE was buying a damn SUV. Another issue was that the average american buyer was afraid of repair costs on turbos because nobody understood the idea of letting them cool (and still don't, but manufacturers have figured out how to get around that.)

Now the Eclipse line survived because it was THE best selling "import" sport coupe in it's class, but in order to bring cost down they dropped the AWD and turbo from the option list. This resulted in the watered down 3rd gen that we all love to hate.

i dont think anyone is hating on the 420a. i believe what there getting at is the irony in the fact hes pointing out the new ecdlipses have no turbo options.....

The OP is saying the 3g - 4g have moved away from performance more towards MPG and the 4 door sedan. I thought this was ironic because he drives an NT, bc yes the NT are better DD's IMO but they are definately geared more toward the cruiser type than the performance car when built.


And yes I read the rules... I didnt Insult, antagonize, taunt or demean the OP I simply said its funny you posted this since you drive an NT however asking if English is his first language could have offended him had he been from a different culture.

A good example of MY POINT is the new camaro. 80% of them being sold are the V6 models. I think its a shame they put a v6 in a muscle car but eh to each his own.

Also, isn't the Genesis coming with a v6(not sure of the liter) and a turbo 4cylinder. I don't think there will be a V8, at least not what modified mag, and import tuner are telling me.

No I didn't buy it actually I was coming back from tech school an my foster father said he found one for me well the car that I had seen was a gst but when I got home it was a Rs. it was 2 late because I had already wired him the money. I'm sorry I was excited about my DSM I couldn't wait an I wasn't on any forums due to tech school. And yes I do google alot but this being my first thread mingling with folks is what I was looking for, can't get that from google. Lol and no I wasn't offend by the statement about my english I didn't read the rules like I should have I really do appericate all you guys comments because I get to take in alot! Like mitsu moving to a broader crowd I just didn't think of it that way and to redeclipseboy the S13 was my old car an still miss it but prefer my dsm.

Mitsu was creating a concept "eclipse" aka the RA that was supposed to be an AWD diesel. It actually looks pretty cool too. Problem is that yea, were in a recession and no one will buy those cars just like no one will buy Evo X's right now. It's kinda strange that a couple people have said that no one is buying 3g/4g eclipses because back in york over the summer i couldnt believe how many 4g eclipses i was seeing on the road.
