This isn't that big of a deal but It's been doing it since I got the car and I want to know why. I can shift into 2nd gear no problem under 3000 RPM but when I shift into it over 3000 RPM there's a small grind before it goes into the gear. This happens when i downshift when going fast too. There's been other threads about this sort of thing but I haven't found anything that helps me. Thanks! :dsm:

Ya I get that going from 1st to 2nd quite a bit, to the point where I have to take extra time to make sure I don't grind. Some people say it's a mis-shift but there has been times when I am dead certain the clutch is in all the way and it does it. Only happens at very high rpm when I'm really pushin it though, and I've been more cautious of it for a while now, so I avoid it by shifting a bit slower. Sucks, but atleast it don't grind that way.

I wonder if there is any maintenance to fix this though? New syncros, gears, clutch etc... I'd like to know as well.

i have this problem going into 3rd when at higher rpms too
if anyone knows what the fix is please fill us in

Try some Pennzoil Synchromesh, or slow down and give the synchros a chance to work.

well just when im say racing or doing a quick run through the gears, i go from 2nd to 3rd and it just doesnt even go in it grinds a whole lot and i just miss the shift.

Same here when i shift from 1st to 2nd it grinds bad only that gear. Definitily the sychros. i just changed the fluid to valvoline syncroshift. Did 3 runs runs at the track everyone was missing 2nd costed my a 14.2 at 99.7 with a 2.1 60' and the fact that my stock clutch doesn't like 4500rpm launches anymore it just slips. So i think i'm gonna pull the trans and have a guy in town build up the trans. Thats gonna be another 2 grand spent on this box.

has any anyone had any experience with a short throw and maybe that would help the miss and grinding a little bit. i was thinking about getting a b&m shoort throw first. just to see.

Well my suspicion was that it was the synchros all along. If you need to put in a new clutch then you should definitely put in new synchros because I don't think they're that expensive, it's just that it's tough to get at them. If doing the clutch already then it isn't a big deal to pop in new synchros. I'm just waiting until I need a new clutch. Hasn't been that bad for me. As long as I give it an extra split second it's fine.

As for the short shifter I bet you'd still have the problem, but I'm not sure about this. A short-shifter is definitely on my list though :thumb:

Well, where can I get new synchros from? I've been searching for some time now and can't figure it out. I really wanna avoid going to a dealer tho cuz they'll usually rip me off.
