Hey all,

If someone has prepped a car with RTS (rattle can) primer, but I would want to finish it off with a nicer 2k BC/CC, what should I do to prep? The bodywork is very straight, and primer looks good, but it is 1k rattle can. If I wanted to use a Urethane BC/CC would that work over the 1k primer? Would I need a sealer first? Or just sand down and then prime again? Can I put a 2k primer over the 1k? Looking for best options. Preferable not sanding it all again, considering it looks pretty nice as is.

i would recommend sanding so you can see through the rattle can primer. it doesnt all have to come off but i would put a good sand job on it and then do a light coat of primer and a sealer to make sure everything comes out right. ive had problems with rattle can primers showing blemishes and imperfections through the paint after a month or two in the sun so you wanna cover it up pretty good before base and clear.
