420A 2gNT Overheating issue

Alright i own a 95 eclipse gs auto trans. At idle for example stopped at a light it begins to overheat temp needle goes up but drops down again even when im not moving the car. what could cause the problem. i admit i jus fixed my car and it has tap water in it could this be it?

Do your fans turn on?

Could be the thermostat. Try running the car without it. If you dont have an issue without the thermostat installed then its bad. Replace it.

I agree. Always start with the simple things first. Pop that thermostat and see how she runs. After you see if it is in fact the thermostat replace it and put some coolant in there.

Yeah, Just replace the thermostat... They are only like 10 bucks at the auto parts store. I had an over heating issue after my rebuild. I just couldn't figure it out. I started trying everything from water wetter to a new thermostat. One day I decided to stick a leaf up to the radiator to check the airflow and then realized I had wired one of my fans in reverse... It was blowing the turbo exhaust through my radiator and over heating the car. Sounds stupid but was a very simple mistake. I couldn't tell it was reversed by just putting my hand up to it.

will do just bought one and will change it tomorrow!

Remember to put the little jiggle pin facing up. And make sure the front of the car is higher than the back when purging the air from the system. I recommend doing a flush and adding anti corrosion and def water wetter helps.
