I've searched all over on this one, and something just seems amiss. I posted on one thread, was told I shouldnt post there... I have a 420a and didnt notice they were referring to a 4g63 with the same issue... Anyways...

I believe I'm getting no spark on 2 and 3 because they have fuel on the tips, 1 and 4 are look like they are firing fine, I have put in brand new plugs, wires, and tested with a fully working coil pack (off my 2nd 95 NT), fuel filter, hooked up a good cam sensor, fuel pump, and all vac lines are attached, and yes I did fully drain the bad gas of 2years. All of this was done AFTER paragraph 5...

It turns over strong and tries to fire once by sputtering like it wants to fire and then it wont. I have to turn it off fully, then re-crank to get the same results. It sputters like it wants to fire around the same amount of turnovers like 5 or 6 and then i can turn it over for like 20 and it never sputters again. I dont have access to a scanner at the moment, but I didnt think it was a cam sensor at first because my other 95 N/T would start after about 10 turnovers, and i found out later that my cam sensor was just unplugged, the point is, it was unplugged and still started and ran fine (bad gas mileage though on my 2nd GOOD running 420a), this one has me stumped sorta, but all the search threads have pointed at a possible "cracked" cam sensor, and thats IF 2 and 3 really are the cam sensor cylinders. (would explain fuel on the plugs...I hope)

The part that has me REALLY stumped is that before I bought this car, I helped him put a motor mount in, and we drove it to his house on bad gas. Exhaust smelled bad, but it rev'd fine, had it's power and all. Didnt overheat, leak or anything. Then all of a sudden a month later I buy it and it wont start? I have checked all connections, and the only things left to do is swap out the Crank sensor, and plug in my 2nd 2gNT ECU... I already tried a good cam sensor, and when i pulled the cam sensor off the car that wouldnt start, the magnet in it wasn't cracked.

I might add though.... when I finally opt'd to do the fuel filter, I found a fuel line (rubber hose covered in a resistant plastic-ish thing, this connects to the fuel rail right below the vacuum for the AC, on the Accy belt side of the engine, 420a for those who are lost at this point) plugged into an A/C line. like the skinny plastic one that runs off a silver charge line and turns into a small skinny one that comes onto a outlet tube above the fuel rail. I know it sounds really FUBAR.... but would that have royally screwed it? I know my way around getting to things in the 420a but again, you guys are the experts to me, and it's how i've come as far as i have from an 18yr old "ricer" (LOL..) to someone who really appreciates a good stock car :). Any input would be great, sorry for posting in the wrong one Steve. Have a good one all.

I'm Not familiar with the 420a at all, but don't they have a power transistor also? if so that's one thing you never mentioned. A bad Power Transistor can cause two spark plugs to go out, or all 4.

The 420A's dont have Power Transistors, but reading around a bit more, on the driver side firewall, those 2 relay looking plugs bolted to it are fuel relays?

I would like to add that I have checked the timing on it, and it's all lined up. I checked the connection on the crank sensor, and it's good, well, it's plugged in. I almost had it fired today. I cant pull myself away from there possibly being some bad crap still in the tank though, I drained it completely and put about 2.5 gallons of fresh gas in it. Did ALOT better this time around, it keeps trying to fire, but just isn't quite there. Just thought I'd update if anyone else has an idea.
Thanks guys.

I seem to be having the same problem with my 420a. Except for the fact that it wont sputter or fire at all, and I have no spark. Everything else checks out fine and they only problem that I could see being left is the ecu, seeing as how I have no check engine light when key is in on position.
