Hi, my eclipse has had this problem since i got it. When you start it up it will die if you dont give it little gas, but after a few seconds it will stay alive on its own, but it idles really high, at 1450 rpms. It will also die while you're driving it, but it fires back up since its in gear. I have spent hundreds and still haven't gotten it fixed. I have replaced the TP, IAC, MAP, and front O2 sensor, the fuel filter and part of a kinked fuel line, plugs, wires, and coil/distributor cap, and the battery. I also think it should have more power then it has at the moment, i think it might be the fuel pump or injectors, if someone could please help that would be great. Thanks
I am planning to put a turbo from a gsx on my car also.

Turbo not installed and i haven't done anything else to the car. I tried a different ecu but it didn't work, its one that came with my car as an extra

Funny thing, I had these similar problems on my first motor before it spun a rod bearing. I replaced all of the sensors including the ones you mentioned in the OP and the CPS, but they never made a difference. After I spun a bearing, I swapped a new motor in it and never had the problems again, leading me to believe that it was the motor and not vacuum lines, etc. Never found out why my idle was running high like that either, but in my case I assume it was from numerous complications in my 420a, ranging from my rods/bearings that eventually gave out. let's hope for your sake that this won't be your issue.

you can try cam position sensor. I know i had an issue with mine for a while and ended up changing the cam pos sensor and it took care of the problem.

It seems like most people think its a vacuum leak, where would i start to look for leaks? I was by a mechanic today and he said to get a different ecu. My ecu says Chrysler on it, is that right or should it say mistubishi? He also said it moght be a crank shaft sensor. Does anybody live in wi, because i could really use some help, im getting pretty frustrated. Thanks

There is also another problem i forgot to mention. It takes about 2-3 seconds to idle down after you let off the gas, it also will go up to 3200 rpms if you just tap the gas peddle, and wont come back down for about 3 seconds

I agree with eSCAPEist. I also had the same problems with my old car. I replaced the cam position sensor, crankshaft position sensor and o2 sensor with no luck. I spent hours looking looking for vacuum leaks. My uncle is also a master mechanic for 28 years and he could not find any issues either. The car would idle high until it warmed up then it would calm down a little bit. It would shut off while driving but mostly when pushing the clutch in to come to stops. It happened every time and you are right, it is very frustrating. I hope that you can find the issue to your problem because again, just as eSCAPEist, it was the internals of my engine that were bad and I bent 2 rods upon starting the car one morning. Good Luck to you and hope it turns out better than mine.

Could it have something to do with a bad seal around my valves? Should i even mess around with getting a different ecu ?

you can try a new ecu. I had to replace mine on my car as well the first time it started stalling.

My car idled hard at first and i tuned down the idle control from 1500 to 1000 rpms but mine never took long to go down or anything like that. As far as it cutting off maybe an electrical issue with your harness and if thats the problem goodluck. Other wise could be its not getting enough fuel or you have a leak somewhere. Check for any wet spots on hoses that shouldnt be there my suggestion where to start.

My 95 gs eclipse has a few problems, i have mentioned some in other posts (randomly dies). The problem is that when you are driving highway speed (60) and let off the gas to slow down it doesn't slow down smoothly, it has a jerking feel. It also not even close to smooth when you hit the gas again to speed back up, its like there is a certian place when you are pushing down the where it just decideds to give it gas, and jerks when that happens. If you could help me that would be great, i don't know if this is linked to it randomly dieing while driving. Thanks.
