I see a lot of guys with FMICs cutting the stock 2Gb front opening larger, removing that ribbed section to promote airflow. It might sound goofy but I saw that as a worthwhile mod to do even if you don't have a FMIC. I have a Hahn SMIC that seems to be working very well and I like it a lot. It's a very high quality part and very efficient. I wanted more cooling airflow to the stock radiator so I cut that ribbed section out of the center opening. Seems like it has lowered my operating temps marginally. Plus it looks a lot meaner.:talon:

I had wanted to do the same thing and highly considered it a couple months ago when I had my front bumper off. But I came to find out that once I cut away the black ribbed section, that would only reveal my big bumper core support/crash bar. Which sits directly in the way of airflow and was the purpose of cutting it in the first place. So the only other options are to 1) remove the crash bar and hope I do not get in a front on collision or 2) somehow hack away at this extremely thick and durable bar in the area of the ribbed section I cut away. Any thoughts? What have the rest of you out there done?

Just a point of advice. If you do get in a collision without the crash bar and the insurance company finds out, there could be some problems.

that broke that sucker in half. The car was totaled out by the insurance company a few years back for an electrical system fire. I still wanted some protection for the front so I cut out the middle of the front fiberglass bumper that was broken anyways. It's loose fiberglass, almost an abs resin plastic and really easy to cut with a sawzall. I left two foot long sections on each side where it bolts up and tied the two sides together with a section of aluminum tubing that has walls almost a quarter inch thick. After I cut that ribbed section out, there isn't anything obstructing airflow to the radiator. Those two sections of the original crash beam that I left in really help to position and the hang the front clip on. I thin the thing i really need to do now is get one of those carboncreations vents for the hood to suck hot air out. I might also wrap my SS DNP exhaust manifold. Engine bay temps are higher than I would like.

I've seen alot of cars that raise the hinges on their hoods like two or three inches so that the front of the hood is still flush but at the back its raised up to vent hot air.
