I want to change my 95 GSX suspension knuckles to 97'-up suspension knuckles to get wider tire clearance for my EVO 9 wheels. I'd like to fit 235-245's on there without spacers. Right now I am running 225's with FD wheels and I can't even fit my finger between the tire and knuckle. Is it only the rear 2gb knuckles that allow more clearance or does the same go for the front?

I searched on Google but, the only thread I found was this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/handling-tech/419664-rear-knuckle-kit-question.html and it was never replied to.

It seems like it should be a direct swap but, does anyone have any knowledge about this or have done this before? Would it matter if the 2gb had ABS or not? I heard the ABS version is different but not to sure if that's correct or not. Any info would be appreciated. I could probably pick them up at a junkyard or a parts car for cheap.

It's as simple as buying the 2gb part and putting them in. WHen i did my AWD conversion I already had a 97+ (2gb) car in FWD but my donor car for the AWD driveline was a 95(2ga) So in the rear i have the 3ga parts and in the front i retained the FWD 2gb knuckles. I run a 225/50/16 tire and up front it fits just fine but in the rear i have to run 10mm spacers until i can get the 2gb rear knuckles installed.

This had me questioing why my rear wheels wouldn't bolt up after the conversion and that was my first time ever hearing about the difference in the 2 generations and their respective clearances for tires/wheels. But like i said, from having the mis-matched set on my car and researching why i was having the cleanace issues after the swap i learned that it's just as simple as it sounds to swap out to the 2gb parts and get the wider wheels/tires

Cool that's good to know, I will start looking out for some 2gb knuckles. Does it matter if its from an AWD, N/A, or GS-t? Thanks :thumb:

NO problem, just ship me a pair when ya find em LOL

I just need the rears so i can have a matching set

I run Evo 8 wheels with a 245/40 tire on 2ga knuckles and don't have clearance issues to the knuckle. I do have a bit of issues on the fender and have a roller on the way to fix that.

I did pick up a set of 2gb knuckles but won't be swapping them out for a while. It is only the rear knuckles that add extra clearance.

Lol too bad the rears is what I need. Ill let you know if I find an extra pair ;)

Really? I don't see how there would be anyway to fit 245's considering I'm running 16x8 FD wheels with 225\50\16 tires and have zero room for a wider tire in the rear. I think I'd even rub with 235's, Ill have to take a picture of my clearance and post a picture. Can you go full lock with the steering wheel without hitting in the front? Maybe the EVO wheels make a difference because of the offset?

My Evo 8 wheels have a +38 offset. The section width of my tires (Star Specs) is 9.8" for reference. Lowered about 1-1.5" (I forget) and running -1.6° of camber.

Im about 1.5" lowered on coilover as well but I could always adjust that if I need to.

Hell, Ill just through on a 245 width tire and go from there. Worst comes to worst Ill just install the rear 2gb knuckles and do some negative camber if I have to. Im sure I can make it work somehow.

Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it.

I do not ask many questions on the forums, because I either A. Educate myself by reading or B. figure it out by trial and error. So my few questions are the following, First off, Would the (2GA) into (2GB) conversion work for only AWD or can this work with (N/A) to add more clearance? Second question, I read above stating that ONLY the "rear" (2GB) add clearance from the (2GA), so if this would to work on a (N/A), then I would only need to change out the REAR knuckles off a (97'+) GS, GS-T, etc. FWD ONLY, to add more clearance and NOT change the front knuckles, Correct?

I'm running 2gb knuckles in the front and 2ga in the rear with Evo 8 wheels with 235/45/17, no spacers and no issues. Rear fenders are rolled.

From reading around a little bit, it seems that the knuckles are the same no matter the model for the same years. Meaning 2gb gsx, n/a, and gs-t are all the same and should all be swapable to any model 2ga.

Yes the front are the same for both the 2ga and 2gb its only the rear that will make a difference in clearance.

I'm sure someone can confirm this information since this is just what I have seen by searching around.

What are the differences between all 2G spindles, AWD, FWD, A and B? I've searched and there's no clear answer. I read there are caliper center-to-center differences.

ok so if i get a full set of 2gb knuckles for my awd i can put evo rims on?

In case you missed it....

The only difference in FWD models is ABS vs. non-ABS. The GSX knuckles are different since they have provisions for axles to go through.

Would one be able to just take off/put on the cap on the rear of the knuckle between models (Number 8) or are the physically different.

The bolt pattern for the hubs is different between FWD and AWD rears. I thought of the same idea but didn't do it for my AWD swap. I remember looking into it but choose not to go that route. May have been because of dimension problems between the two or I just said screw it and did it with AWD parts for ease and avoiding future hassles with replacement parts.

And to add to the list. 2gb front knuckles, 2ga rear knuckles, lowered 1.5", 235 45 r17 on evo 8 wheels, rolled rear fenders.

ok what is the difference between 2ga knuckles and 2gb knuckles i don't understand? more clearance right.

Correct. You can run Evo wheels with either 2ga or 2gb knuckles as they are skinny enough. If you step up to a 255 tire on a 9" wheel with a "normal" offset (something that doesn't really stick out), you'll need that extra inner clearance of the 2gb knuckle.

So in the picture Ray posted the knuckle is number 7 correct? I am just making sure i am right. And the knuckle can be off of any 2gb right? I have a awd so does it have to be awd?

Yes, the knuckle is number 7 but I don't know if it has to be AWD or not. Advanced auto listed the same hub bearing(#2) for all models but some are saying that it has different bolt patterns.

You cannot put AWD rear hub assemblies in FWD rear knuckles.
So no, you cannot use FWD rear knuckles and retain AWD.

Here is a picture of me holding a FWD rear hub assembly in an AWD knuckle:
