My car gas light does not work for some reason. even when the gas gers really low the light doe not light up. already check the cluster light bulb and its good. does anyone know what wire and where exactly it is that goes to the gas light on a 95 talon awd? just to make sure is not cut off or anything of that sort

i know u said temporarily but could i just do that and it will fix it or is that just to figure it its working and it would stay constantly lite.

what i meant is by grounding that yellow wire that u said.will it make the low fuel light work again or thats just to check it to make sure it lights up

Thats just to check it to make sure it lights up (to check wiring and bulb). It will force the light on as long as you have it grounded (and key on). So if it goes on, then you know problem is in the tank (either bad thermistor or wiring to it is broken).

oh okay. if it does light up when grounded then whats the next step towards fixing it?

First I would check the most likely cause: Bad continuity (broken connection or wire) of the under rear seat passenger side tank access cover's black wire to ground. Use ohmmeter part of your meter for this.

If ok, then on the driver's side tank access cover now ground only the yellow-black (note: all these following tests assume you have the key to on). If the light doesn't come on you have a faulty level switch.

If it comes on, move to the passenger side rear seat tank access cover and ground only the yellow-black. If light doesn't come on, the yellow-black wire is broken between the driver and passenger side.

If it comes on (and you had good ground continuity of the black to ground in the 1st paragragh), then either the thermistor (in this passenger side) is faulty OR you don't have too little enough fuel in the tank for the thermistor to activate (turn on).
