Well today I swapped my valve cover for my other one that I cleaned up and one of the bolts by the driver side closet cam didn't catch any thread I filled the hole with RTV and put the bolt in is this good enough all the other bolts are tight?
sorry for such a newbie question but it's important.

What do you mean it doesnt catch? Did you strip it? Is it the correct length, threads, ect? I would really try to find a bolt for that myself. You are kinda just asking for problems in the future.

yes its the same bolt but do you think that the rtv could stop it from going in if there's some in the hole?

Are right I'll take another look tomorrow. If I'm missing a bolt will it matter or will it cause leaks?

you should have long and short bolts. make sure you arent trying to thread a short bolt in a long bolt hole.

yea I do but I'm not sure which ones go were so I lightly threaded them in to see if it was right. Do you know which ones go where like a diagram or something.

You can put your bolts in the cover and then look at the bottom of the cover and see if they are all uniform in length. If that won't work get a small screwdriver and insert into the hole to measure the length of the threads. You may need to clean the threads and even go so far as to tap it out. Most of my valve covers are split from previous owners installing the bolts wrong or over-torquing them. I have also used JB weld to repair the screw holes.

You should be able to get a slightly longer bolt to use. IIRC the threads are tapped deeper than what the bolt threads into. Just be sure to tighten everything hand tight (preferably with a nut driver using 2 fingers).

Well I took it for a spin and didn't see any oil leaks so i was like why not boost it. So I did and came home to check well ofcourse oil is splattered on the intake manifold(by the runners) and a little on the back well i assumed it was the cap no it was tight but the middle bolt in the back was a little loose so i tightened it even more and I think that's what it was I'll look in the daylight tomorrow.

go ahead and save yourself some trouble and get the helicoil kit from advance or a autozone like was mentioned earlier.

Could it be the hose coming out of the back valve cover by the CAS? I Dont think theres that much pressure since it didnt happen on my old cover.

its a kit that come with a special drill bit that you drill the hole out with. then you insert a coil the give you and bam its repaired. no more stripped hole.:thumb:

O ok cool I think tomorow the rtv will cure a little and the leak wont be there and I tightened one of the bolts in the back so I will see what happens tomorrow.

RTV will not cure anything, Because the VC Gasket is Rubber, RTV is for regular Gasket.

It will cure for a couple of days But won't stay for ever.

Get the Helicoil Kit.
I did it on mine all around and was so easy.
