I've heard that its horribly restrictive from some people and I've heard on this board that an upgrade was dynoed at a 0hp gain on a ~350hp car.

Is it worth the money to get a full metal UICP? I think it must help seeing as how there's that crushed down plastic section and the TB elbow doesn't even match my 1G TB.

Opinions?

Yes, replacing the OEM UICP will improve performance. Just look at the restriction!

How about if you insist that that squished piece is so much of a restriction, you calculate the volume of that part and compare it to the rest of the piping.
Then we'd know for sure. Looks can be decieving.

While I believe my greddy knock-off UICP and LICP are upgrades and superior in every way, I noticed no difference in spool, or power (only a butt dyno though). I didnt even get a change in sound like everyone claimed.
I'm also at barely above stock power levels though. It could be a completely different story with an EVOIII 16g.
 
depends if your increasing the pipeing size with that, if your just going to hardpipe you shouldnt see much change. Bigger intercooler pipeing will give a slight difference though, but like anything else, it all has to be sized for the cars needs. To me it makes the car a little louder putting hard pipes.
 
The rest of my cold side piping is 2.5", so that stock piece is definately a decrease in size. I'm also wondering about the stock 2G elbow on a 1G TB, the size difference is pretty significant.

I don't remember who posted the no gain thing or where, but it was one of the well known shops that tested an UICP on one of their cars.
 
Not all the way through though. What good is a 60mm TB if you only have a 55mm (just a guess) pipe leading to it?

My max airflow @ 17psi before the installation was normally about 28.50 lbs/min. After the installation that was increased (similar ambiant air temps) to 30.26 lbs/min. 1.76 lbs/min for $95 (+$15 shipping). Not too shabby.

Prior to the install I had tried to increase the boost and saw no increase in airflow. After installing the UICP I turned up the boost to 19psi and was able to get the airflow up to 32.15 lbs/min.

I also noticed that the response was more linear durning the spool period. Prior to the install there seemed to be a "jerk" as full boost set in, almost an instant where it seemed as thought the turbo was "turned on". This has leveled out and has a more consistent pull as full boost is approached. I now have even worse wheelspin in 1st meaning I can only accelerate in 1st at part throttle. As full boost is reached in 2nd gear it normally lets loose again. It never used to spin in 2nd unless I downshifted from 3rd at about 40mph. FWD Sucks!

So, total after the installation I was able to get an extra 3.65 lbs/min !!! .

I am contemplating turning it up to about 21psi but need to take a look at some logs at 19psi before I start doing that.

This was on the stock cat back with an EVO III 16g and all the supporting mods. The car before the installation made 242.5 WHP. I have not dynoed it since the installation, but it was the most recent addition to my mod list. Anyone want to pay for a dyno session? :)
 
I just put a 1g intake and throttle body on my car and it will flow 33lbs/min at 19psi now where i had to have it at 22-23 psi to flow that much air before. I havent tried turning up the boost past 20 yet but if i get a chance soon i will let you know how that goes.

AGREE! I would guess that the biggest bang for the buck that I have gotten was a Dave Brode with a 1G BOV. Bought it off of ebay, brand new pipe and new BOV got it under $100. With my t25 and modded intake, I would guess it added 30 hp. A big chunk of that may have been due to replacing that leaky BOV....

I can't wait to see what this UICP does. Here's hoping I have a rat's nest in my stock one that's hurting my flow severely. Because my peak airflow is HURT. I bumped boost from 20psi (set) to 22psi (set, still creeps to 25 either way) and saw 2-3lb/min across the board, execpt were it crept that high anyway before. Why can't I get peak flow up???WTF :mad:

Increasing airflow at the same boost level requires better VE. A larger TB, intake or cams will help. I saw a 4 lb min increase when I installed my FP1's.
