Newmarket,
Another post on 2g transmissions. I have read through what we have on forums, but still have questions. So i'll start off.

I have a 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD.

My transmission apparently has been swapped to a new tranny about 1 year ago, by the last owner. Right now i am getting 2nd gear grinds, and small 1st, and 3rd gear grinds as well. I have to granny shift in order to not hear the grinds, which I do all the time, have gotten so used to it, i time it so well now, that its almost as if I still shift fast. LOL., but still it's ###, as it does grind here and there.
I went to my mechanic, and he told me its the clutch, we bled the clutch, and nothing. Could it be anything else?
Also I am looking to get my car to about 350hp at the motor, not right now, but next summer. Right now I will buy a turboback exhaust + cold air intake, and get it tuned for the time being. I was wondering, should I just go ahead with TRE or Shep or Jacks trannsmission? Also which one should i get? I am trying to save money, and Jack's trasmissions look as best deal to me, as they are the only ones that offer 4 spider center diff included in their stage 2 rebuilt, TRE, and SHEP, u have to pay extra. unless you go with higher stage, which is more money of course. Anyhow, please guys let me know, what other problems could be causing the grinds, my buddy is telling me its synchros and I need a rebuilt for sure. So i am probably going to go with Jacks Transmissions. Anyone buy it there? Place any good? I am in Canada too, so it's going to cost me a lot in shipping, which sux.
Let me know guys, anyone feel like writing anything on this topic, please feel free, as I am a newb, and want to learn. I love my DSM

Also, what else do I need to get with my tranny if I do decide to buy one, slave cylinder, master cylinder, lines, clutch? i was thinking 2100 for now.
Also, if I get stage 2 tranny with 4 spider center diff, and i keep my car stock for the time being, will it be hard to drive, or anything will change? or is it find to drive like that too? I dont have money to dump into performance as much right now, thats why.

ok, what kind of tranny fluid are you using? Is it at the right level. How is you clutch fork and fulcrum ball? Is there any leaks in your master or slave cylinder?

Who built the last transmission?

For a new build, I would suggest tre, or shep racing. I don't see a real need for a 4 spider diff, unless you feel you really need it.

Check all of the stock components I mentioned. Keep us posted.

Thanks, I will go and check asap. I have redline fluid in there, I changed it, when I was bleeding the clutch, nothing helped. Also there was no leak in master or slave cylinder, but i will double check again. I have no idea how to check my clutch fork and fulcrum ball. Is it easy, or do I need to go to mechanic to do it? Keep in mind i am a total newb. LOL, the max I can do is change brake pads. LOL, I am a self learner, and have learned to do small things on the car, basic maintanance stuff, but i don't know about clutch fork and fulcrum ball. The previous owner has moved, and the car started doing this just at the end of the winter, I called him, but he was already gone, he said it was a basic rebuilt, when I bought the car originally, i don't know if its true, or if he just put in an old crappy tranny in it just to sell the car, cus the original tranny blew.

Thanks a lot.

Ok, to check the fulcrum ball and shifter fork, you will need to pull out your transmission. Get someone that is experienced to check it, or spend a full weekend (in your case) to learn this.

The fulcrum ball and clutch fork and the parts that actually apply pressure to the clutch.
The ball helps mount the fork on the inside of the transmission. The slave cylinder pushes against the end of the fork and the other end pushes against the throw out bearing and into the clutch pressure plate.

If there are no leaks another thing to look at is the adjustment of your master cylinder inside the car. Read the link below in this part:

Do this stuff and let me know what you find.

Hi, can you please let me know, how I can learn to take my tranny out? If you have a link to something liek this?

Either way, I will look through the info, but if I feel I am too newb to do this, then I will not do it, maybe do it with one of my friends sometime. But at a shop will cost me a lot of money to pull it out, 300 bucks I beleive, CAN here. I will check out the rest of the parts you mentioned. Also, if I plan to go 350hp at the motor, do I need to go stage 2 with my tranny or no? Also, you did say I don't need to get the 4spider center diff, i was thinking only to get it because its included in jack's trannys, so its like a bonus i guess, i saw it that way. anyways, i do not really need it, as mine seems to be fine, but why not replace it if they do it for the same price as tre, and shep? not sure.. let me know. any info helps for me at this point.

Thanks a lot.

First off, you need to get yourself a manual for the car. That helps alot for anyone that wants to do work on their car.

A stock tranny is fine for 350 hp. Just make sure your clutch is strong enough to hold the torque. An ACT 2100 should be just fine.

No, in your case you don't need a 4 spider diff.

Another thing to remember is, you get what you pay for. Remember this the next time you buy something or have someone rebuild something for you.

Thanks a lot, I will try and check that, or get someone experience to check it. I will do it later, as if there is something wrong, then I will ship my tranny to get a rebuilt right away. Thanks a lot for the info, I will read that this long weekend, and see if it's something I am able to do, or do with a buddy of mine, who is studying for mechanic.
