Im hoping someone can help me with the bar code number on my 2g AWD tranny. Ive been searching many threads trying to find some information on it but havent had any luck. So here goes. First, is the bar code the identification number of the tranny or is it a different number and if so where can I find it. The number is a little faded but from what I can gather it is BIE-2342-NPZT 95 Eagle Talon TSI
Second, I was under the understanding that there were only two different transmissions, the 90-91 22 spline and the 92-99 23 spline. However, I was told that there is difference in the final drive gears between the 92-96 trannys and the 97-99 trannys and that I need to know which one I have in order to get the right transfer case for it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The bar code matched the number it is by, much more reliable than the numbers if you have a barcode scanner on your phone.

There are two plates though, the number you posted which is your serial I think, and the other is the part number which will be something like W5M33.... That one is hidden by, on my car, the wiring harness and intake.

There are several models as well, there are two for the 1g depending on transfer case spline count, and then more for the 2g as they moved two mounts to the transmission in stead of being on the block like our 1g's.

Anyways, there isn't a difference in final drive, just match the splines and you are golden. The only difference is in the casting.

Thats what I thought also, that as long as you match up the splines you should be alright. But the guy Im buying the transfer case from said otherwise. I appreciate the insight though. Im going to check and see if i can find the other number on the tranny.

Listen to the guy you are buying from: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drivetrain-tech/402630-1g-2g-transmission-driveline-compatibility.html#post152586425.

...it is BIE-2342-NPZT...

Based on the underlined portion alone, one could safely assume a '95-'96 AWD transmission, which would have a transmission code of W5M33-2-NPZT.

You are wise indeed. Thats exactly what I needed to confirm. Thanks for the link. I found the number engraved into the tranny. Its KW5M332NPZT. Just realized you posted what year that serial number is. Is there a specific link or web site where that information is available ?
