will it work? i have a 91 eclipse gs Turbo it's a FWD five speed i need a new tranny and i have found a tranny off a 97 eclipse FWD turbo. will it fit onto my car?

2g turbos are 7bolt, and 1gs are 6bolt, so it won't fit. someone correct me if i'm wrong

first off not all 1g's are 6 bolts. it has to do with the tranny mounts more than anythign i belive. The 2g trannys use 3 mounts where as the 1g tranny's use 1 mount. i have a 2g tranny bolted up to my 6 bolt block but this is b/c its in a 2g eclipse with 2g engine/tranny mounts.

I'm running the exact same set up in my 91 Laser FWD.
The 97 transmission uses a larger splined axles than the 91. The way I got around that problem was to use the differential out of my 91 transmission since it was still good.
If you use the smaller 91 axles you will also need to replace the axle seals because the ones in the 97 transmission will not seal the smaller axle. Just buy the axle seals for the 91 transmission they will fit the 97 case. I read a post once that said the 94 1G FWD turbo's got the larger axles, maybe another option?
Problem #2... The separator plate that goes between the transmission and engine. The 97 transmission locates the starter in a slightly different spot than the 91 and since the starter mounts through the separator plate the starter holes in the 91 separator plate will not line up with the 97 transmission. So plan on taking the separator plate and starter off your engine, line the plate up on the 97 transmission and start grinding on the plate until the starter fits. If I was doing it over I would buy the separator plate for the 97 engine and try that first.
Finally you have to swap out one of the shift levers with one off your 91 transmission, it's the easy one that is held on with 2 bolts. I also cut off the weight on the other shift lever. Couple of other minor changes, you'll need some slightly longer bolts to hold the slave cylinder to the transmission and that bolt by the turbo that holds the separator plate to the transmission no longer fits.

If you want the short answer yes it will fit :)

it seems like there is something blocking me from putting my 2g tranny on my 1 block. is there any fabbing i need to do, or cutting of anything. i thought it was just a bolt on, but i cant get it to go on smoothly, the top of the tranny bolts on fine, but the bottom is a pain. any ideas?

you have to mount it straight on. Make sure the input shaft splines engage the clutch disk and don't forget the alignment dowels...
It does not require any fab. just the starter bolt alignment changes

hey - if you dont feel like doing the work, could you PLEASE let me know where you found that tranny?? I need a 2G turbo 5-speed SOOOOO bad. My car has been out of order for over 2 months now and it SUCKS! PM me, thanks!
