Ive heard of this being done and I would think it would be a good mod, because I know the 2g trannys are not so crunchy and harsh as the older 1g trannys ( for instance mines grinds into 2nd gear really bad ) and I see the gear ratios are slightly higher on 1st and 2nd than a 1g from some site I seen, and I think the higher ratios are better in my opinion, but wondering how their 7bolt trannys would work with a 90s 6bolt engine that I have, and I probably would be in the market for a new or used tranny later in the year concerning mines now? ( Or would it be cheaper and easier to just go with like a stage 2 rebuild of the tranny I already have and make the syncros in 2nd stronger in my 1g tranny, even though i know rebuilds are quite pricey )
Any tips and experience would be useful.

I don't think it will work. Even idf it did it wouldn't be worth the hasle. Have to change cables, shift plate and I don't think the mounts are the same somebody can clerify that you has a 2g.

yea i was thinking something like that, i mean i know it cant be too bad because ppl with 2gs use 6bolt motors and keep their trannys but I dunno... I probably wont do it anyways just wondering about it to keep all options you know....

Yea a few of my friends run 2g trannies in thier 1g's and they never had to change any shifter cables or anything like that. And you can run a 2g tranny in a 1g because the motor is held in by 3 mounts on a 1g and then uses the top tranny mount as well, were a 2g is held in by three mounts on the tranny and only one on the motor.

Exactly correct.

so would I just retain the 6bolt flywheel and clutch and put it inside the 2g tranny and it will work that way...? Because I know the 7bolt flywheels are different anyway...
Also is this something that you guys would consider worthy or spending the time/money to do using a rebuild, or new 2g tranny, because plus im sure there easier to find new.

Or would one just say rebuild the 1g tranny... Im trying to figure out which one is a better option and less expensive basically.

So all yr 2g trannys work with 1g engines without changing brackets, or shifter cabels or mountings?
Or only a select yr... I have a 93 shifter plate and cabels, and a 90s transmission from the 6 bolt engine I got it from, and my 93 tranny is toast, and the 6 bolt engine thats going in nxt month is built up, but the tranny itself is in unknown condition and being that its so old im sure its going to have problems especially with the whp numbers im eventually going to put down... The 90s trannys on the 1gs are different from the 91-94 trannys as far as mounting brackets and shifter cabels, but I was told that I can just use my mounting bracket off the 93 tranny and I wont have to change shifter cabels or nothing... Is that true for the 2g trannys or is it even easier than that?
And is it true that the 2gs have slightly different gear ratios (better I believe because 1st and 2nd are higher) ?
