Hi guys, I have a 97 Eclipse GS 420a.
I've been using all of the forums as well as Facebook and other sources to get my 2g running.

The idler pulley took a dump in the middle of a 6 lane highway a couple months back, and with long 10 hr weekends sat & sun, and with the help of the community on here, I GOT IT TO RUN! (On jack stands Without the harmonic balancer because the bolt I ordered came in the wrong dimensions) but everything is in time, TDC, and no rod knock or valves hitting.

My only question is, if the car runs but sounds like a cammed V8 instead of the 4 cyl l've heard before, could there be underlying issues? Am I safe to drive even a mile to test it out?
If I could get an outside opinion on this, l'd have the utmost gratitude. Thank you!

Sounds like timing could be a tooth off.

It's also not a good idea to run engine without the harmonic balancer. It holds the crankshaft timing sprocket in place and it could walk back and forth. I doubt it hurt anything for the duration of that video but not a good idea.

Gotcha, I thought it would be a little risky too to test it with the hb off but I was so excited to have fixed it. I’ll get back at it this weekend and see if I can align the cog teeth better with Tdc, after the new bolt comes in. Thank you!
