2G Spyder Speaker Grill Removal

I was just wondering if there is a safe way to remove the speaker grills from the driver/passenger side door panels. The door panels I picked up came without them but maybe its possible to salvage my old grills?

If I remember correctly the mesh is just wrapped around the back of the door panel hole? So I would take a pair of needle nose tweezers and carefully unwrap them from the back.

Don't quote me on that though it has been awhile since I upgraded my speakers, I have the memory of an 90 year old man

Mine were screwed into my door panels when I upgraded my speakers. Maybe that was from a previous owner, but none-the-less you will need to remove your door panels either way so go ahead and do that. It should be self explanatory from there.

The black ones I have seem to be have some plastic tabs but I'm not sure. I didn't see screws back there or it being wrapped. We're talking about removing this right?

There not designed to come off. I believe they are melted into place on the back side of the panel.

It seems risky to remove one but any recommendation to get one of and transfer it to another panel?

If you have the means, I would just replace the panel

Alright, I'm going to experiment with an old panel and see if magic can happen.

One of the grills was glued on (someone beat me to it) and came off easily with some pressure. The passenger side panel was untouched. Due to the lack of heat, I decided to just use pliers on the two tabs and freed that portion of the plate. The rest of the grill was taken off with tugging in different directions in order to weaken the tabs. Both grills show no signs of deformation but their is probably a much better solution for someone who isn’t in a rush.

Good to know regardless. I plan on changing my speaker grills out to brushed aluminum when I do the interior refresh on my car
