I am in the process of setting up a 97' GSX for road racing. my next thing to do is the suspesion/handling parts on the car. I have no clue on what to do for a set-up. I was looking at some tien Super Street coilovers but as far as sway bars and stuff i dont know. Anyone that has a DSM road racer please help. give me a list of everything i will need. Money is not a big deal so any sugesstions would be great.

2g's need lots of help in the neg -Camber department. the new RRE upper control arms are awsome. I'll be outfitting my RR car with them in the near future. Its your call on how far you want to go with suspension. I am looking at getting higher spring rates b/c an eibach pro-kit just doesn't cut it on a road course. you need much more sring and consequently more compression and rebound dampening. A good shock spring/set up in conjuction with sway bars and strut tower bars ( and lower tie bar's ) Makes 2G pwn road courses.. ;)

I would definatley consult RRE on a 'Meullerized' set up if money is no object.

RM sway bars should be your first upgrade.
Is it for track use only? Road cage if it is, harness bar if it isnt. 4 or 5 point harnesses, fixed back racing seats.

Depending on your budget, look up threads containing Konis and the user jtmcinder, he has some great suggestions on spring rates, and setup using the koni setup, saying its better than JIC I cannot say, but its definitely a cheaper option, plus more custom-tuned to your own car, especially if you have corner-balanced the vehicle.

Ill let more experienced guys in, ive only done it twice.

Ride quality is much harsher w. RR set up.. 1 the alignment set up for Road Racing makes the car pretty 'darty' on the street. Depends on what your willing to put up with if you want to have a 'TRack DSM" I hope its not your DD

ALso look @ Brake ducting, and good Brake pads ( Porterfield)
Hawk HPS wont cut it... see the flames? ( Overshoot of a 110MPH braking zone.) also a great example of the need for stiffer springrates.

Vent Hood ( heat Evac style)
Isolation of the intake and shielding of electrical parts from hot stuff.

Perhaps you should search and read what i'm sure are countless threads and references to books about setting a car up for Road Racing. You can take the same approach as you do for say a nice AutoX set up, just understand the car has to be able to ' take it' lap after lap or your going to be wasting alot of entry fees. You have to engineer a little more Reliability into any RR set up.

.. Are you talking about doing HPDE's Time Trial's or actual Club Racing?

1) Maintainence and reliability first
2) Brake pads (optional, but recommended)

Then get out there and get seat time. Unless those parts are warn out, there is no need to replace them this early in the game. In the beginner groups its all driver, the car just gives you 4 wheels to get around the track. Once your more comfortable with being on the track, at speed, with outher cars, and understand the flags/corner workers/track ettiquet, then start to get some more car under you. Biggest mistake is to slap parts on before knowing what they are getting into.

Check out the Road Racing section of this forum. There's good information about starting out. I know, I was there 1/2 a year ago.
