I bout a 2g GSX that had crank walk he rebuilt it and 1month later it walked again...he gave up and im doing the 6 bolt swap as we speak. I have always wondered why they walk and magnus has a really good theory IMO. They said that the oil squiters get clogged up with stuff in your oil and the keep the check valve from closing at low oil psi and since the 2g oil squiters are feed from the main bearings the oil squiters keep dumping oil in and robbing the oil form the bearings and then that causes them to burn up. Take a look:

I believe the crank walk issue is over rated... the reason there is so many crank walk convo's on this site... is because most people come on here with car problems... which is one of the main reasons this forum is up... and out of the couple of thousand eclipses in the country only a few hundred come here because they are talking about all their issues... while the other few thousand eclipse owners done have issues... most of the gsx gst owners i know dont even know what crank walk is.... people think its a crazy thing... motors break all the time... honda's blow their motors left and right..... we get crank walk on rare occasions... i think the chances of blowing a motor is higher than crank walk.... just buy a 98-99 gsx/t to be safe and like someone said before build up a 6 bolt just in case... if u dont get walked just sell it and get the money back :)

Just my 2 cents

i completly agree with what you are saying. people do come on here for help with whats wrong with their car. yeah you can research this forum till your blue in the face and read ppl's stories about crankwalk and what not. what i want is the facts. bottom line...theres how many thousand ppl that are registered members with new members every day. i want the figures, i want to know if its really worth it too dump money into this motor and have it walk 5000 miles down the road. if we get 100 votes or 1000 votes it gives you a factual percentage because these are the ppl that have actually have went through this. i know what happens and what causes crankwalk. if ppl are out there talking about how this should have been a factory recall then it must be alittle more than an abberation. thanks to all that have voted. please consider to do so.

also i talked to slowboy and they said that it was roughly 25% of 2g's that walk. he said that if you took the oilpan off and checked the thrust bearing once in a while you could catch it before it went bad. but i mean who wants to do that a few times a year. i guess you'd rather not worry about it period. thanks guys keep it up

I agree with you on one point: that is the "victims" of crankwalk tend to end up here and are looking for help. The thing you tend to discount and ignore is
there is a web group specific to helping these people (1Gina2G yahoo) Is there a Honda group for crankwalk victims?
This happens far more to the 2G DSM than any other vehicle that I am aware of.

Where are you coming up with these numbers? I don't care if they're concrete or not, but at least post that they are your personal estimates, based on no facts except personal experience.

I have personally seen and heard of 95s walking the most. I have never heard of a 99 walking, and 97 and 98s seldom crankwalk. I would say 95s and 96s crankwalk the most, but I think these numbers are somewhat inflated.

**EDIT** Mods, I'd like to see this thread stay open. If we can get a few hundred people to vote, we'll probably have some fairly meaningful numbers, at least in the performance turbo 2g community.

I'd also be interested to see a poll of people who have had their car walk, with the choices being model years. That would tell us which year has walked the most.

CRANKWALK IS WAY OVEREXAGGERRATED!!! BUT 99'S WALK JUST LIKE THE REST OF THEM. THE ONLY PERSON I "KNOW" THAT WALKED WAS MY FRIEND WITH A 99 GSX AROUND 100K. MY 97 GST HAS ABOUT 117 AND IS BUTTER. :thumb:

Have you checked your clearances?
Some of you guys are in denial...Until you inspect, you have no clue. Your car will run great, right up to the point where the crank angle sensor fails.

All of you 2g guys that are like "no problems yet", "XXXXX miles and no problems", and
"had my act clutch installed and nothing" are probably walking and dont know it... Well non of you have checked your clearences and i guarantee they are not the same as when they left the factory, got rebuilt.... My crank came out so far it broke the cRank angle sensor. So i just picked one up from a junkyard for 30 bux and bent the crank angle plate to fit within the new Crank angle sensor.... I ran a 12.9 the following weekend with a crank clearly out of spec.... i have been driving on this bandaided motor too for almost a year now.... I have come to the conclusion that every 2nd gen will walk or is walking sometime in its life.... Fortunately for me during this year i have 2 built 6 bolt motors ready to drop into my 2g... hope u Guys have fun with your timebomb ;)

Ps i am currently in the process to put in my 6bolt and my stock 7bolt has 140K on it and still runs strong but is WAY out of spec and has already broken 1 crank angle sensor

i think i should vote 2 times because me and my brother both own a 2g and neither have walked.

i checked my endplay it was fine, and i have takin off my oil pan because i hit a huge ass possem and dented it so i got a new one.

my car has a act 2600 and has had it 1 1/2 years it has defentatly been driving hard with 103k on the clock and i am more worried about problems with piston rings not crankwalk.

my brothers is close to a virgin with 104k miles and no problems.

btw i have a 6 bolt head and i am just waiting for an idiot to blow up a 6 bolt block for me to buy and build.

Exactly. None of these guys have chimed in with the NUMBER when their clearance was checked.
It's hard for people who do not work with engines or in a machine shop to relate to part fit up and how large .001" really is. The difference between .002" and .010" is huge.

i dont think its over rated one bit. i dont know how many thousand is into my car b/c i had 2 MOTORS THAT CRANK WALKED. YES 2 DEAD MOTORS. the oil was changed religiously using fully synthetic mobil 1. the 2nd motor lasted 26K miles.. its not that over rated. i know 2 friends whos cars took the walk. maybe im just unlucky but topics like this are right up my street. im on my 3rd motor in a car thats less than 10 years old.. this time its a 6 bolt. just my 2 cents though.

1999 GST Spyder w/ 507XX miles no sign of crankwalk (KNOCK ON WOOD) :dsm: What I am going to do is keep the 7-bolt stock and IF it does crankwalk deal with it at the time. Cars break so you fix'em i dont know why ppl sweat over it.

Holy shit! 507,000 miles? God damn! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

i guess if i decide to buy a 2g ill just buy a 6 bolt and not even piss with it...or maybe ill just go back to a 1g. i guess i just wanted something different. 2g's are nicer looking...but i would have so much more to build another 1g again. crankwalk sucks. :thumbdown

The only car I have ever seen walk was my friend's 1G that has started to walk... So I have never seen a 2G walk but its funny that I have seen a 1G walk :p Go Figure.
