alright guys heres the deal. ive sold the 3 1g dsms that ive owned. and im now looking at getting a 2g eclipse. i know all about crankwalk but my poll question is this...what are the chances or percentage out of 100 that my 2g will get it. Please only vote if you have either had a 2g or own one now. im trying to decide if i should build the 7bolt or find a 6 bolt and not take the chance. thanks guys

it's a hit or miss situation...2g's get crankwalk due to mainbearing failure..Search the forums for some shit on it..dan

i understand that. ive been into dsms for 2 years now. and i know that not all of them get crankwalk, but what im looking for is the chance....if its 50/50 ill sell the motor and buy a 6 bolt. thats what im looking for

Lol, you may want to revise your thread title. I have a 2G and mine hasn't walked. :D

Needless to say, I didn't vote since it doesn't apply to me.

1999 GST Spyder w/ 507XX miles no sign of crankwalk (KNOCK ON WOOD) :dsm: What I am going to do is keep the 7-bolt stock and IF it does crankwalk deal with it at the time. Cars break so you fix'em i dont know why ppl sweat over it.

My still runs fine after all tha beating that it goes thrue. Most of 2G's 5speed crankwalk. So if you don't want to worry about that get a Auto trans

No problem yet and this was my second summer on the ACT 2600. I think saying most 5speed 2G's walk is a huge over statement. It's a small percentage at best. And like all car problems you deal with it when it happens.

no walking here. from the research done on this site and others it looks to be about 15-20% change of a walk.

Buy a 2g and dont even worry about it.Lightly mod it,and buy a 6 bolt and build that up on the side. When your 7 bolt walks you should be already prepared.Yes mine did walk  but 140K miles later

In 99 they redesigned the thrust bearing... so it's a lot less prone to crankwalk... someone correct me if Im wrong but I dont think I am.

1995: 7%, 1996: 13%, 1997: 20%, 1998: 15%, 1999: 7%.

These numbers are in no ways concrete because CW is a chance thing but this is the most popular pattern I've seen around. Not much in the 2ga, killer in 1997, and died back down after. But like I said, this is not cretain.

Oh yeah 1995 GSX, 46000 CW replaced by dealer, 106000 now and no signs.
::Visits Consumption Junction to knock on wood::

Boy do I miss these posts. I have NEVER seen a DSM that has walked in person and I've been tuning them for 3 years. I have only heard thru someone who heard someone's car walked.

My cars been running great since the day I got it and I'm still not worried about walk. Knock on wood.

How many oil pans have you had off in those 3 years?
My car ran like a rocket until the crank angle sensor died....That ticking many 2G owners hear is not the lifters!
The bearing in the photo came out of my '97 GSX. I could get a .015" feeler between it and the crank.
Note the difference in wear from top to bottom on the thrust surface. Either the cap moved or the thrust wasn't set when the motor was built.

Where are you coming up with these numbers? I don't care if they're concrete or not, but at least post that they are your personal estimates, based on no facts except personal experience.

I have personally seen and heard of 95s walking the most. I have never heard of a 99 walking, and 97 and 98s seldom crankwalk. I would say 95s and 96s crankwalk the most, but I think these numbers are somewhat inflated.

**EDIT** Mods, I'd like to see this thread stay open. If we can get a few hundred people to vote, we'll probably have some fairly meaningful numbers, at least in the performance turbo 2g community.

I'd also be interested to see a poll of people who have had their car walk, with the choices being model years. That would tell us which year has walked the most.

I believe the crank walk issue is over rated... the reason there is so many crank walk convo's on this site... is because most people come on here with car problems... which is one of the main reasons this forum is up... and out of the couple of thousand eclipses in the country only a few hundred come here because they are talking about all their issues... while the other few thousand eclipse owners done have issues... most of the gsx gst owners i know dont even know what crank walk is.... people think its a crazy thing... motors break all the time... honda's blow their motors left and right..... we get crank walk on rare occasions... i think the chances of blowing a motor is higher than crank walk.... just buy a 98-99 gsx/t to be safe and like someone said before build up a 6 bolt just in case... if u dont get walked just sell it and get the money back :)

Just my 2 cents
