My 1g pistons and rods fell out of my flimsy box and hit the ground. 2 of the pistons have rock chips. :beatentodeath:I am upset that they fell and I m thinking of getting 2g pistons for my 1g rods. will 2g pistons and 1g big rods hold 500 hp like 1g pistons and 1g rods? I think 2g pistons and 1g big rods will make a great combination with my 16g turbo and my dsmlink. and 18lbs on yellow top injectors. what do you guys think?

I have read a lot of threads on this and I beleive that the cost of the 2G pistons with the machining to the rods is not worth it. But I have heard of the combo holding 500 to 600 horsepower, but that was with very good A/F ratio and timing set ups.

You can do about the same horsepower, but if you are going to buy pistons again why not get manley/JE/Weisco? Once you buy the 2g pistons and rings you are within a hundred dollars or so anyway and they will definately hold the hp. I know the manleys come with the rings so that saves cash right there. Your tuning window will be tighter with the 2g pistons or any higher compression piston for that matter.

by tuning window i beleive he means ## boosting ablilties, if you have high compression pistons, you cannnot boost as much. with the high compression pistons along with turbo boost, you will throw a rod through the block, not fun. you have to go with either lower compression ratios and more boost or sacrifice boosting for the hgigh compression pistons. for more raw power the lower compression ratio and a turbo will get you father faster.

also, the parts from a 1g are 'beefier' as described in my research. not sure about the 1g pistons but the block is cast iron, not aluminum. and the rods are forged steel. if i am not mistaken.

i guess in your case, i would keep the 1g rods and find some nice aftermarket pistons :)

By "tuning window" he means the higher compression you go the more spot on your tune has to be. The lower the compression the sloppier your tune can be.
