2g Pistons or pay the extra for forged?

Now I am looking to max out my 14B on my 1g and was wondering if I should go budget for some 8.5 .020 overbore 2g pistons with 1g machined rods or should I pay the extra and get 9.0 forged pistons with some forged rods or would this be overkill on a 14B turbo?

2G Pistons will definitly take you as far as you can with the 14B, there is alot of people running great times on mitsubishi bottom ends! But you have to ask yourself this question, once your 14B is maxed out, are you going to go bigger?

Is there something wrong with the motor now that you gotta rebuild it? if not than i dont see the need to even change the pistons. Stock pistons wheter they're 1g or 2g will pretty much put up with just about any turbo out there. Detonation will kill a piston before power does. Theres a local club menber making 500 whp on stock 1g pistons.

I just picked up some 2g pistons and some shotpeened and stress relieved rods. My setup is good for about 500 hp just like the other guys are saying and the good part about the 2g pistons or higher compression pistons is that you can make more hp on the same boost level so you don't have to try and run like 22 psi on your 14b. So I disagree with the previous post even if there isn't anything wrong with your pistons or rods going with some 2g/higher CR pistons and some machined pistons along with a nice cometic or metal HG and some arp studs will give your dsm new live and teh ability to get that power you really want and leave you with room to spare incase you upgrade your turbo.

do you know his mod list, the only links on his site that work are the home link and the "link" link

You're not really going budget with this setup. After buying the pistons and having the connecting rods machined to fit the wrist pins of the 2G pistions, you're only a hundred bucks or so away from a set of forged pistons. Get the forged pistons and stick with the 1G rods, they'll handle whatever the 14B can throw at them.

yeah not for nothing but if your gonna rip the whole engine apart you might as well rebuild it right and spend the extra money for forged pistons and even forged rods...its well worth it in the end cuz if something happens and you have to sell or part out the car, it has a racing bottom end for the most part...and if you part it out you will get some good money for that engine...but hey thats just my opinion on the issue...what you do is up to you however putting stock pistons back in is pointless if your ripping apart the whole engine...

I tore apart the engine in mine and just put "stock parts back in" and it was not pointless. If i decide i want more power than the 14b can give me i'll just go to the next turbo up, like a T25...LOL J\K :D but really. i don't see me spending more than a couple hundred bucks to get to maybe 300 horses, and any stock Mitsu turbo piston will do that. hell I have a bunch of stockers, even .020 uver stockers that i didn't use. Guess we all start collecting parts in case our car, or a fellow DSMer's car needs parts :thumb:
