2g o2 sensor wire color engine bay

I just installed an Air/fuel gauge connecting the gauge signal wire to the blue wire off of the o2 sensor in the engine bay. (I don't want to hack my harness). It reads no signal or the leanest possible most of the time with occasional cycling.

Is the blue wire the right signal wire in a 2g from the o2 sensor in the engine bay?

Please help.
