very sad Christmas indeed no idea what the problem is but i'm fearing the worst.

i cant upload my video so nvm

Blew my stock 7 bolt, bought a used 1g 7 bolt for $100, threw my head on it and beat on it all summer and it still runs strong. Best $100 ever spent.

There's no need to spend anywhere near that kind of money.

He's just trying to bone you pretty hard bro. If you do it your pretty much stuck until the mechanic finishes it. I can 85% guarantee that he will give you the run around to because not many mechanics know how to work on the 4G63. So DIY or find someone who knows what he....or she is doing.

I agree the guy is raping you. Just a quick search in your area came up with a lot of parts on CL. Hell there are complete running turbo cars for 2500, yea lets spend 5k on a motor. Did he show you a trashed bearing or did you take his word for it? There are plenty of videos of loud lifters.

If at all possible I'd do the work myself, If not maybe you can find someone on the forum local to throw a used engine in it, it's really not that hard. Finding a engine in a short time frame might not be ideal but don't get your pockets picked by this guy. My father in law is still driving his 90 laser with a $300 dollar engine 12,000 miles later that I swapped out.

i found a GST here on fort carson with loads of aftermarket parts it has a 7bolt as well he got from japan and put in by a local shop by the name of underpressure performance and hes willing to sell me it for $2000 minus the turbo manifold cam gears bov and front mount which he wants for his evo when hes back from deployment

In classifields you have a lot of engines. Stock, forged, 6bolt, 7bolt, etc. Check it!

Well i do agree with you ^^^^ im doing a rebuild too but with a 6bolt because my 7bolt block is trash im doing all forged internals for less 1k

All forged internals for less than 1k?? Tell me what your getting because last i looked up a set of forged race rods like 700 and pistons i think were 4-500. Guess I should have looked harder.

And as for the OP Deff don't go with that mechanic or buy a new engine. I completely rebuilt mine for for around 1500. Parts were about just over a thousand and machine work was 449$. That included all parts cleaning, boring, valve job, and resurfacing block+head and installing all new valves + polish crank. I had to put it all together myself though. If you can remove and install yourself that will deff save you some money. Best to do a rebuild as you may be getting another problem with the 2000$ engine.

thanks for you all the imput

I do like the idea of rebuilding mine but at the same time i can get this fairly new condition 50k-60k engine that was just put in on Oct 20th 2011 from japan i got all the paperwork and receipts for everything done. and i look at it like ill get 4 coil overs, hatch with wing, interior (his is in very nice condition and its black :D) gear seats tho :'( LOL. also rotors break pads and aftermarket coilovers with less than 3k on them. i guess its a risk im willing to take.

Well i got my wiseco 1400hd pistons really cheap for 150 and i just need one more piston with i already call wiseco they said is 143 for the new one so i got my set of wiseco 1400hd pistons for 300 thats cheap and they're 9.1 comp ratio ,specially this pistons are like 700 or more. Now the rods i got them for 505 mainly I beam rods from a local tunner shop here in arlington tx, and these rods go for like 700 here from the vendors. Now i just have to get my acl race main and rod bearings , and i got my 6bolt block for 100 from my friend and the block is in great condiotion. I just have to get my oil pump and gaskets and habe my block bore over .20 and have it hone and aline hone and have assemble and balance ill be good too go.

$5k?! You can just go buy another DSM and pick and choose the good parts between the 2, PLUS have money left over to build up a pretty kickass setup for that much. No way would I pay that much. That mechanic is smoking crack, and needs you to support the habit. WTF
