The mechanic building my 6 bolt swap called me and said that the machine shop couldnt drill out my 2g head to fit on the 6 bolt block. I really didnt understand why, He said they would run into problems. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I thought it was very simple, just a quick drill to make it fit the bigger head studs.
Now the mechanic is going to take all my hardware out of my 2g head and build a 1g head. I suppose it will be better due to the 1g heads flowing better but I just wanted to see if anyone else has ran into that problem? or if Im being played for a fool by my mechanic???

Do some more research here on the forums.
1G heads do not flow better than 2G heads.

I wouldnt say either flow better than the other. It all depends what you need for your application. A street driven, maybe raced, lower HP (350 or so) would benifit more from the smaller ports of the 2g head, allowing more low end torque with the higher velocity air. High HP and high flowing turbos used for mostly racing would benefit from the 1g head as it flows more air than the 2g at higher RPMS.

For the OP I would say go 2g. Just my $.02

well first I should go on about this shop, He tells me it should only take about 2-3 weeks. Ok so the 2-3 weeks comes along and its not done. I call him up and he says he went to another state to pick up a car and his tire blew out. so then he tells me it should be done in a coule days, so I call him back up and he says oh Im bolting the tranny back up should be done in a couple days, call him back up, oh your turbo has really bad shaft play,(which I kinda figured because it was somoking like a bi***, so he tells me it will be done in a couple days, so i call him back up and he says Oh the machine shop called me and said they couldnt drill your head because they would run into problems. so he says he would build a 1g head with all the hardware I have, so he says oh it will be done in a couple days, well today is that couple days and he told me still working on it, bolting tranny up. this is starting to piss me off, with all this couple of days bullshit, then he tells me he would send out pics of the rebuild TWO times and he never did, he tells me he will call me and never calls.
My car has been over there since last week of april.
Is this taking way to long or should I not be worried.
Hes doing a 6 bolt swap and act 2100 clutch kit w/ fidanza flywheel and running it on the dyno to do a basic tune.

he is BSing you.
All they have to do for the head swap it drill out the holes to match the larger diameter head studs. It sounds like he is just trying to get a bigger pay day out of you.
The whole swap including machine time should take a couple of days if they work exclusively on it.

In regards to my comments about the heads. I said that the 1G head does not flow better than the 2G. I didn't say that 2G heads flow more. Better and more are different things.
The 1G head ports are physically larger than the 2G. The 2G has a better design.
More does not always mean better.

thats what im thinking but My total for the entire rebuild is 4350.00
thats for everything on the 6 bolt swap. new arias pistons, ealge h beam rods, 6 bolt block, clevite bearings, port polished 1g head, ported intake manifold, new timing belt, b/s removal, act 2100 clutch kit and fidanza flywheel. 18g turbo with 780cc injectors. 3 dyno pulls to get the basic tune.

When I lived in Cali they quoted me at 6 grand to do that.

Where you going to a dealer in CA?
I can get the 4K price from a real good shop for in CA for a 2.4 conversion.

It might be too late for this but, if the head is drilled right then there wont' be any problems, a few people I know run 2g 7 bolt heads and 6 bolt blocks. and daily drive them and they run fine from what I see.

What I want to do eventually is a 2G head and a 2.4 bottom end.
Got a ride in a GSX that had this setup all I can say is tons o torque.
