I've been doing some searching here and there on the forums about this. I just talked to my buddy about this and he told me that since the Prokit only lowers the car about 1.3 inches that the factory suspension system should give enough adjustability to bring my camber back up to good specs.

I also just gave a call to a "respectable" shop and they pretty much said the same thing.

Haven't found much on the forums and Im even more confused as I thought I was going to need a camber kit for the front and the rear wheels after the drop.

Can anybody confirm or have personal experience with needing/not needing camber kits with a 2g suspension with Prokit springs?

John, aren't you on DSMP, too?

My car has Eibach Pros and Koni adjustable shocks and I definately need camber kits for both front and rear. When I had it aligned, my rear camber was off by more than my fronts. Unfortunately, I can't correct my camber due to my tire width and profile.

Yup. LOL Im on there too. I just posted over there too. haha

Damn I was hoping I didn't need them. Dont you think you may need them because of the size wheel and tire you have?

Any time you lower the car from factory, the suspension geometry changes. The camber kit ensures that your wheel/tire combo (regardless of size) has a flat contact with the ground (unless you adjust it to purposely run a specific setting for road racing). If I used a camber kit on my car the top of my wheel/tires will be pushed out, but my combination is real wide and I can't do that.

I see what you're saying but don't you think that because your tire is that wide that any little negative camber will have a greater affect on your contact surface area? I mean Ive been hearing on all other forums that I probably will not need the kit.

Maybe my best move would be to install the springs, get the alignment, and if the car needs it, get the camber kits.

I just wanted to know beforehand so I dont have to take everthing apart again.

I measured my camber before switching to this wheel/tire combo. Maybe it did change after, but not 100% sure.

Regardless, you don't HAVE to get a camber kit. You can run without it, but your tires will wear unevenly and therefore need replacement much sooner than a propely lowered car. Since the contact patch will primarily be on the inside of the tire, the middle of the tire and outer part of the tire will not look to wear as much.

I PROMISE you need the camber kit, atleast on the rears. If your running the stock 2g GSX rims that are 17 X 6.5 the fronts won't need it using pro kit springs, but the rears for sure.

I think the best move would be to install the springs AND camber kit, then get an alignment. If you don't get the camber kit your going to pay $70 for an alignment and they'll just tell you that they couldn't align the rears. Then you'll get the camber kit anyway and pay for an alignment again...

So what your saying is he doesn't have to get a camber kit if he wants his tires to wear unevenly? :ohdamn:

You can go to a place like Goodyear where their alignment is good for the year and just re-do it once you install the kit.

Many DSMers run without camber kit (myself included) but the best way is to have them on. If I wasn't running such a wide setup, I would have them.

Really the one you need to worry about is toe. Although camber will wear the tires in an abnormal way toe is what will really make you eat through tires since you are basically dragging the tires across the road. So if camber is not adjusted it is not as big of a deal as is toe. Just make sure your toe is within specifications unless you have deep pockets and a very good tire dealer LOL

Im running 17x7 wheels. So if you're saying I only need the rears then do you think I could make my own and just grab some grade bolts and simple washers? I mean the rear camber kit looks to be as simple as that.

By all means do that, save yourself some cash for some go fast mods. 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Homepage

If you price out the bolts and washers separately its close to break even IIRC. I bought these from STM before I swapped wheel setups.

STM: REAR CAMBER KIT 2G DSM (95-99)

I have them brand new in the package. If you want them, I just want to break even. Paypal me $24 and I'll pay to ship them to you.
