Im pretty sure that Ive seen this post somewhere else a month ago, but cant find it. Been looking for 3 days now. Well I just took the heat shield off my recently purchased 92 tsi AWD and noticed my exhaust manifold has a leak (no surprise). Its not a crack this first top bolt's head broke off. Not sure how to fix that, but figure might as well get a new manny. So getting to the point, can I use a 2g Manifold? I have a 14b, will it bolt straight up to it? Will I need anything else when getting the 2g manny, or will I need other parts in order for it to bolt on? Also, if ported does it matter if both sides are ported or does it have to only be the engine to manifold opening? Im new to DSM's so help is appreciated. Thanks

you need to fix the broken bolt. you could port your 1g manifold or get a 2g manifold or an Evo III manifold. porting is easy and can be done yourself. check out www.vfaq.com and go to the porting area. as for your manifold, it can be bolted up to the 14b. good luck w/that broken bolt.

i just installed an evo 3 exhaust manifold on my 92 engine and it bolted right on.as for the broken stud, when u take the manifold off, try to see if u can get it with a pair of vise-grip pliers.if not then try a screw extractor if it broke too far in.there is more info on it at vfaq.com :thumb:

evo3 manifold isnt quite as good as a ported 2g manifold, but it gets the job done and is a lot better than a crack prone 1g mani. but yes, they will all bolt on to a dsm head

Yes the 2g exhaust manifold will bolt right up. I was also able to keep the factory heatshields on the car too when the swap was done. The slowboy racing exhaust manifold, I believe, is the best buy for this upgrade, but it is a bit costly. If you get a hold of a 2g manifold for $70 or so and port it, it will be the best bang for the buck. As far as porting, most people port the collector out to gasket match it with the turbo. The runners I would do the same, gasket matching it will help, anything more than that is wasting your time. Let me know when you are doing this, I can help. Good luck!
