Resolved 2G Exhaust fitment question

I am planning on purchasing a downpipe from RRE. The high-flow cats that RRE sells are too expensive and I was thinking about buying a 3" Catco cat from Summit Racing. Anyways, my question is that if I buy two 3" exhaust flanges and weld them to each side of the Catco cat which is 14" long in length would it bolt up to my N1 Catback? I also want to get rid of the reducer that the N1 catback comes with which enables it to bolt up to the stock cat. Thank You

how about wait till you get he downpipe mounted and the reducer for the cat back removed. Them just size the distance for the cat? might take a extra 0.5 days, and a friend to drive you there and back. But it sure beats the "hope that person I don't know measured theirs correctly" method. I have a 2g FWD and my testpipe is longer than 14".

**EDIT**Also the cat/testpipe on a FWD 2g also contains the exhasut hangers/ O2 ground wire stud (a bolt welded to the hanger so the stock sensor wire braid can easily bolt on) so those would have to be welded up so you might want to take it all to the exhaust shop and let them work there magic on it so everything fits correctly. The RRE cat is only 150, how much was the cat you got, after adding in flanges, and welding? Usually just as much. Also dont for get to hit it with some hightemp paint.

well, since RRE sells both the short and long dp's for the same price I was thinking maybe just purchasing the long dp and have the exhaust shop cut it to the right length. What do you guys think?

I say mod cheap mod twice. Not trying to say "break the law" but your car will run without a cat. If needed, buy just the RRE long downpipe bolt it on and roll with that. And later on if you descide (or you immediatly have to, for lets say a ticket) you can take the DP to a shop and get them to weld the cat on in the middle where the stocker would about reside?

Thats what i meant, I will bring the long dp to the exhaust shop and tell them to cut the dp so that the cat could fit perfectly without using the N1 reducer.

I don't understand all of the confusion.

They are built to bolt directly to an RSR or Apex N-1, RS, WS or Dunk exhaust systems only

all you have to do is get the cat, cut a section from the downpipe, insert the cat in its place, and make sure you keep the overall length the same. the catco cats have about
2-3 inches on either end so you can always cut them down if the overall length of the cat is too long.

you can just get an ebay downpipe and do the same thing. they're not as long, but as long as you have a tape measure you can make sure the length is correct. the section after the flex is 3", but the neckdown at the end is actually the same diameter as the catback (in my case, an RS*R)
