2g edm OBD connector

I have a 2g with 4g63 n/t engine (97). I bought an OBD ISO logger but it doesn't work for my car but with others it works fine. I tried to find the problem and noticed that my car has pins 1,4,5,7,9,12,13,14 and 16. So all the lines needed for ISO are there (15, L-line is optional). I checked the pins with oscilloscope and found out that some lines pass 12 volts after the ingition, but the line 16 gives it all the time as it should. Even the 7th line gave 12 volts (or something) when the car was running. So there should not be just a failure in the connection. I didn't notice any actual data flowing but that might be because the oscilloscope was an old piece of junk.

I've read that all Eclipses since 96 or was it 95 should have OBD2. I haven't found which lines are actually in use on Eclipses. What I did find out was that the logger has too 9 lines out but they are not the same as the ones in the car. So is this some kind of pre-OBD system?

Any ideas anyone? Yes, take it to a shop...

I can't help much with your situation, but I do know that 2G (ISO) OBD-II dataloggers only use three of the pins on the connectors. They use pin #5 (ground), pin #16 (+12V), and pin #7 (K line).

To completely rule out any bad connections, or otherwise, you can directly connect a ground and a +12V source to pins #5 and #16. Then, you can tap the pink wire coming from the ECU for the K line signal.

If pin #7 had a constant +12V voltage coming from it, then that may be your problem, since that pin is for the data line. Then again, you might not have noticed any data transmission with just an oscilliscope.

I remember seeing that the k-line had purple wire. Others had two-color wires, if I remember correctly. I think I get a better oscilloscope and try the k-line again. It should reveal if there's just a bad connection or some other line is leaking thru or something like that.

But if it doesn't tell anything I just plug in the pink wire from the ECU as you suggested. Thanks.

Both are photos from my car. I've read it hundred times that all 2g's have Neon's engines, but that just isn't so. I hope someone would correct this once and for all.

Pink, purple, whatever; maybe I'm color blind. In any case, the wire coming from the ECU should be the same color of the wire coming from the K line pin on the socket.

Well, the line's ok. I think the problem might be that the L-line (15th pin) is missing totally. The logger uses ELM323 chip which seems to require the L-line for handshaking (initialization). I'm out of ideas.
