Hey all!
I'm new to this page and I'm hopefully going to be buying tomorrow a 1996 eclipse gst that has a knock above 3500rpms, I'm picking it up for 700 and I'm new to rebuilding an engine and would like some advise on where to start and what to check! Mods- unknown front mount intercooler, greddy bov, spectre intake, aluminum radiator, and full 3 inch turbo back exhaust, those are the mods I know of any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

Do you have a garage to work in, and if not do you have a shop that can help you out reasonably priced? When you say has a knock are we talking spun bearing or are we talking lifter tick? This path your are about to embark on could require you to own or purchase many tools and an engine hoist.

I have a garage and I have a lot of my own tools, I used to work as a mechanic. And I don't know yet about the knock I haven't heard it in person only thru a video and I can't make out the issue. What would spun bearing sound like?

For 700 it's actually pretty clean, the interior and engine bay are clean. Here's a pic of the engine bay. The video I was sent was really crappy so I'll find out tomorrow what it really sounds like and get back to you on that.

It clearly has some work done on it, lots of aftermarket parts. Worth what your paying for it absolutely, even if it needs an engine rebuild. Its just putting in the time and money to rebuild it. looks like tubular header probably to an upgraded turbo.. where this gets complicated is if thats done you need to have engine management (fuel management) like ecm link. then tuning, larger fuel injectors ect.. and if thats all there great, if its not then I can tell you why the engine needs to be rebuilt.
