Quck question, I'm confused. I have a door speaker for the Infinity system that is blown. So my quesiton is can I replace it with any 6.5" speaker, or should I look for a direct replacement. Circuity City and Best Buy claim it can't be done unless I either replace the head unit or purchase a different amp. My system is totally stock infinity and I'd like to keep it that way. So if anybody has just replaced speakers with sucess, please let me know, if anyone has factory "infinity" door speakers their looking to get rid of let me know that too.

Thanks

I have been doing mobile installation and customization for several years now. The reason that Circuit City and Best Buy says it cannot be done is the fact that our stok system has seperates, where the tweeter is mounted in the dash and the midrange is mounted in the door. Now if you replaced just the door speakers without replacing the deck, your new speakers will sound quiter because there is only a range of decibals coming from that speaker. The external amp (which is mounted under the front passenger seat) is the cause for this. when you replace the deck (which in my opinion, you might want to consider) and put new speakers in the doors it will sound a 1000 times better.
The reason that I suggest you replace the deck, and get yourself some new speakers, is that Car Audio decks like Kenwoods and Alpine have better clarity, power, and handling, making your speakers not work as hard to sound better. Replacing the factory speakers (which are made of paper, even our Infinity system) with aftermarket speakers (which usually are made of a polypropalene plastic will sound better and the new speakers will last a lot longer.
You really do not need to shell out huge bank to buy these upgrades either and you will notice a difference in your sound quality too.
Your other option is spending money on used speakers that you may risk blowing too.

This is just my opinion on it though, so I hope this helps. :thumb:

that and the impedance is totally wrong on aftermarket stuff.
thatswhy you can't do it.

also any new head is going to have as much power as the infinity amp did.

if you don't want to change a bunch of stuff out... then you need a new factory speaker.

Thanks guys, that's what I figured. Anybody got an infinity door speaker their willing to sell. I just to want to do the aftermarket thing right now, did that in the past, spent well over $600, then some dude plowed into my car. I'm actually happy with the factory sound, just don't like the "farting" noise my speaker is making right now.

i actually just replaced my door speakers with aftermarmet ones. i had one stock infinity speaker that was blown also, so i have 1 good one.

hit me up with a PM and we can work out details.

my fronts were "6 & 1/2 S"
rears 6x9

(6.5 S is basicaly an oversized 6.75 inch speaker)

others report 5.25 f and 6.5 rear.
