I bought it in this condition, and searching makes me believe it's the shift forks or worn gear. Before I take it apart I just want to be sure what I need to replace. (so it's not in pieces for weeks while I'm waiting for parts to arrive)
Also where can I get those parts

heres a vid I shot
YouTube - 98 eclipse gsx 3rd gear pops out

i should have made it more clear in the video. it will go in fine with the clutch in, but as soon as the clutch starts grabbing it starts grinding.

Thanks

I have an an AWD and when cold the car just put in drive feels like I am running over a brick.

Am I correct to assume you have an auto trans then? Sounds like an issue with the valve body to me, though Im no expert. Check the fluid- color and level. If its a bit low, find and fix the leak. If the fluid no longer has a hint of its original red hue, you need to drain it, drop the pan, replace the filter and fill with new fluid. Most people never service the autos until they break :tease:, and these cars are old so its a good idea to change the fluid and filter. I wouldnt recommend having a shop do a flush on it simply because sometimes the junk built up in an old tranny is the only thing keeping it from leaking, among other things unfortunately. Its not polite to post an issue like yours in someone elses thread. Maybe if you had a manual trans and a similar issue to the op it would be fine, but in this case, its an apples to oranges comparison as you have an auto car. There should be some threads in the "Drivetrain Tech" forum started by members with similar problems to yours and perhaps you can find an answer there. If not, my roommate is an ASE certified master tech and happens to be an automatic transmission expert and I can have him PM you:thumb:

So I final put my order through with dogbox racing today. Stage 1 rebuild w/ ACT2100 street disc and Fidanza Flywheel. When I go pick it up next week, they'll give me the details of what happen to my original box. So ed1380, if you can hold on a week you will know exactly whats happening with your box.

had this problem in my 01 Jetta. the gear and synchros were bad. Got a used tranny for 450 and installed. Worked fine after that

Just to give an update, I called DOGBOX to check on the progress of my box and they told me that there was a delay in parts because of the quake in Japan so it should be ready Thurs or Friday this week. That why I haven't gotten back to you about whats wrong with my box. They said it'll take them a couple days to open and fully go through my core I'm guessing I'll have an answer for you next week sometime.

Hey have him pm me please!! Could use his input LOL.

Just got word back from DogBox a minute ago. Its 3rd gear syncro that was effed up. He said the syncro was warped and had a couple chips in it so it wouldn't hold the gear. So there you have it. Sorry it took so long but those guys at DogBox is pretty busy these days.

There is nothing major wrong. Syncro's are all good. Dogteeth are a little worn, but that's probably from trying to force it into gear. Forks arent worn. neither are fork rails.
