I took my girlfriend's car up to the dealership last year and got her ball joint recall done. I got the car back home and noticed that they only did the passenger side of the car :ohdamn:. Well, about 5 months ago the drivers side ball joint started clunking so I called the dealership again to get the recall done for the other side and they told me the recall was only for the passengers side ball joint.... I was wondering if this was true or not and if it's not I was wondering if somebody could give me like a recall number or something that I can tell them to replace the other one. If not then I'm just going to have to buy it and replace it myself obviously but I don't believe that its just the passenger side if it was because of what they say it was (Dirt getting inside during factory assembly and making them go bad) why would it JUST be the passenger side if they were both being made the same way on both sides? It just doesn't makes sense to me at all.

You can go on autozones web site and they have all the recall info. I had mine done last year, they did both of mine. Their statement to me was they replace whatever ones are bad. Both of mine were bad.

Yeah when we brought it up the passenger side was bad and now the drivers side is bad, what should I say to the dealership when I call now though since I already brought it up once?

Well then don't threat jack yuh jerk. Lol.

Anyways, looks like they closed the recall for her car and I can't find the receipt anywhere so looks like I'm going to be doing it myself... Oh well I tried I guess.

Did the end up being free or did they end up charging you?

I called the Stealership recently and they said they would charge $97 for a "check-up".

Do you guys know if the recall applies to 99's as well? New owner of a 99 GSX and I'm getting a little bit of noise on hard turns out of the front end.

Yes it is for all 2g eclipses. Just call your dealership and ask them if the recall has been done on your car and they will ask for your vin. If its already done, I replaced both of mine for under $80 and it only requires basic tools and a Jack. Make sure you have a thin wrench to get that top nut off though.

extremepsi has a great deal on oem left and right knuckle kits.... each kit includes the control arm, compression arm, and knuckle. just over $100 for one site, it's a steal...

Only thing not included is the upper A arm. But for ~$200 mostly new front suspension you can't beat it.

Thanks for the help. I called the dealer and they told me my VIN was not included in the recall. I said I thought it should be and they said no. Hmmm...

Tell them to check again. Find ypur car and print this page http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/results.cfm and take it to show them. Ask why your 99 eclipse doesn't seem to be categoriezed under 99 eclipse. The recall should either be open (if it has not been done) or closed (if it had been done).

Then again, maybe late 99 models are not affected, I don't know.

I know I would be wasting $97 for a check up already. I know I have to call the dealership before I go to see what has been replaced , and see what recalls apply to me.

Does anyone know what they replace for free???
and
what they will charge to replace?

I already know the recalls, I plan to take my car to get a few things fixed by the dealership
( possibly ball joint, bushing, control arm, something in the rear suspension that makes a creaking noise )
