I have built 6 bolts before but never cammed one out. im guessing I would have to use adjustable cam gears but im not sure can someone tell me what all I need I know the 6 bolt bottom end will withstand up to 450 without replacing the internals but what about the head. I never messed with cams because I never had the money but now I do. this is what I think I need to do but please correct me if im wrong someone

upgrade the valves, springs, lifters (3g lifters) use adjustable cam gears, I already had some head work done its ported and polished and I was told the valve guides were fine. im putting in oem seals ( will that be ok) please add if I didn't mention anything. how would I put it in time. is it possible to use the stock cam gears. if so do I retard the timing or do I advance it. is it easier to use adjustable cam gears and if so how do I use them? if your gonna be a smart ass don't even post.

I have a built 6 bolt with 272 cams, stock cam gears and hard to say about the timing, I would have to go look. with the duration higher than normal they recommend shimming the lifters a bit higher. I desperately need a tune but mine runs just fine with them, lopes really nice. As for head work, I believe I had a stage 1 done to it, lifters, 3 angle grind valves, SPRINGS you will need upgraded springs for this. Also someone said because of the cams it could wear your timing belt a bit more, may want to change it if it already has a few 10k miles. Hope this helps

No you do not need adjustable cam gears. I have BC280's on my 2.4 & used stock cam gears. A 4g63 bottom end will withstand 450 fine. I've got a friend running a 3076 on 30psi on his stock 145k block. Has been doing so for the last year or so, as long as the maintenance is up to date I see no problem with your stock block 450 goal.

Assuming you are using link you can adjust the timing that way after setting the cams up to TDC & doing it the correct way. To answer your questions about cams it depends on the plans for the car. From the sounds of things is just going to be a street driven car with a low HP goal. 272's should be fine for your goals. But it depends on the cams Kelford 272's have a higher lift & duration than BC 280's. I would do your research to see what would best help your goals & make you car as enjoyable as you can.

Fwiw, I am runing delta h272s with crower springs and retainers, and shimmed 3G lifters. I currently have bc gears, but I ran them perfectly fine with stock gears.

I was going to install BC 272's with no work done to the head :/ its my DD and im only looking to get 260-300HP max. I would suggest getting the gates racing timing belt setup, VERY durable. If you dont have the $$$ to buy the kit, then just go stock. Timing belts and cam installs arent hard, you just have to make sure you line it up TDC, before you start :) hope this helps a little.

If you are only aiming for 260-300awhp.. keep the stock cams. Put the money towards other supporting mods.

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. And for the Guy that needs tuned depending on where u live I know a Guy that's been building and tuning dsms for 15 years he's the best he's even in dsport mag with a 4g63 with over 800hp in a conquest if you want his info let me know. He's pretty cheap but he's good

Im running hks 272/272cams. And they run fine. No modifications needed. Other than the idle and performance increase you will also notice the engine turns over slower when starting from more valvetrain resistance and stops faster after killing the ignitiin.
