I installed this pump last weekend and i notice it never cuts off. Meaning before i start the car with my old pumps enough fuel will go through the system to start the car then the pump shut down until the car is actually started. My friends are telling me i might burn out the pump with the way it is.

Did you rewire it?

EDIT: I've really got to start using the Quick Reply feature.

What you said makes no sense at all. Are you saying the fuel pump runs 24/7 whether the car is on or off? Yea I'd say that's not a good thing.

The way you're describing how the old pump operated doesn't make sense either. The pump ran for a second then shut off while cranking and then started back up when the engine was running (apparently running on pixie dust and magic because it wasn't getting fuel).WTF WTF

I'm totally confused.

Did you change the fuel filter at the bottom of the fuel pump? Not doing so can result in premature fuel pump failure.

I haven't rewired the pump because im not driving it "weekend car" also i just finished relocating the battery. And sorry for confusing everyone let me try to explain this better.

When I turn the key before it starts to crank you would hear the fuel pump. On my old cars the pump would allow enough fuel to go through the system so the car will start and then shut off. This pump just run..................Again this is before i start the car with the key in.

I'm still confused. Are you saying that the pump doesn't run with the key in the ACC position?? Does it run with the key out? Does it run when the car is cranking? Does the car start and run properly?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I really can't understand your question.

I think this is what he means: When he used to turn the key all the way before the car cranked he would hear the pump zzzzzzzzzzzz! then the pump would stop doing that, then when he cranked the car well of course the pump would start working again this was with his old cars, now with 255 pump, when he turns the kye on the pump never stops! Is this right HONDASI88? hope that helped!

Oh ok that makes more sense.

No fuel pump should run with the key in ACC. It should run when the key is ON. If this is what you meant to say, I don't see a problem with that. I was told by a wiseman on here awhile ago that these cars have oil pressure safety switches for the fuel pump, so if you get into an accident the fuel pump doesn't turn into a flame thrower. This also makes the pump only turn on with oil pressure, i.e. when the engine is cranking. My pump doesn't turn on in the ON or ACC positions, only when cranking. However if your pump runs all the time with the key in the ON position even when not cranking, I see no problem with that. Obviously this defeats the purpose of a safety switch so don't hit anything that might start a fuel leak.:thumb:

How did you install it that would make it operate differently?

Did you swap it in wire for wire? Exactly the same way the other one came out?

i did but to be honest i need to go back and check everything.......i want this car to run RIGHT so im doing things right!
