my friend has a 2g gst with minor mods. with his stock bov he rus running about 15psi with a little drop off past 5k to redline. now that he got his 1g bov installed hes running 21psi WTF. also he is not hitting fuel cut at all and he says his car runs perfect. is his boost gauge incorrect or is it just a matter of time before he hits fuel cut or something worse?

btw his mods are hks filter, intake pipe, lower intercooler pipe, bcs restrictor mod, magnecore wires, bosch plugs, 2.5 catback. and now 1g bov

The T25 just does not flow much air. It is possible that he will not hit fuel cut with that tiny little guy at 21psi. He may hit cut when the weather gets cooler though, every car is different.

That much boost without at least a logger is asking for trouble. Even if he is getting enough fuel to not run lean, the turbo might give up at any time being over worked like that.

1) He should rewire his fuel pump and get a logger

2) He should then get a pump, injectors, and a way to control them

3) He should save up for the day when his T25 takes a dump (better yet, have a bigger turbo ready to install when the T25 takes a dump)

no, the t25 doenst pull in enough air for the ecu to even flinch, let alone cut fuel.

i ran 20psi on my t25(for a good amount of time before going evo16g), and never hit fuel cut, even at 50* days. oh wait, i hit it once, due to a massive boost leak.

and there is no gain between 15psi and 20psi on a t25, and you just shorten the life of the t25(like anybody gives a shit about a t25, if it blows its just another reason to upgrade). but your buddy sounds like he doesnt know much about dsm's, so upgrading the turbo is ###### far out of the reach of his mechanical skills, and he should turn down the bewst to avoid breaking more things than he can handle.

wow. hes lucky. tell him to turn the boost down because he is just blowing hot air into the motor. that t-25 isnt even good to 18lbs. i feel bad for that car.

Maybe he had a huge boost leak on his old BOV and when he installed his new one, the 1g bov didnt and so his old setting at 15psi on his mbc has now gone up to 21psi, but like evryone said, turn it down. Im sure this is the case if all he did was bov?

Fuel cut is not a function of boost level. It is determined by the air intake volume.

You know that could be a great reason for it. Yesterday I switched out my UIC with a Brode pipe and also installed the 1G BOV. Previously I was dialed in at around 13-14 psi. After the install, I drove it for a test to see if there were no leaks and everything was working. I gave it some gas and the needle flew into the 20's. I quickly let off the gas and pulled over to dial it down some. Even now though it still peaks into the 16-18's. And my MBC is dialed out as much as I can make it. I just have to watch my needle when flooring it, to make sure I don't over pressurize the system. But the leak from the 2G BOV could possibly account for that drastic change. Thanks for the info.

Yeah that's the exact same thing that happened to me. The previous owner had installed a mbc and set it at whatever he set it at, and it would peak around 14-15 psi. Then I installed my Type-S bov and the thing hit 20 psi, so I turned the mbc all the way out and now it peaks around 16 psi. Basically the mbc was set too high and the extra boost was just leaking past the stock pos bov. So when the new bov went on (that can handle much higher boost levels), it was boosting higher at the same setting on the mbc. If that all makes sense. Back to work before I'm late..

Let me help you sum up what everyone have said.

2g BOV is known to leak, you're lucky if it will hold 12psi. Upgrading to the 1G BOV sealed the leaks resulting in higher boost level without adjusting the mbc. Turn the boost down to about 15-16psi.

Your questioning indicates that you think fuel cut is triggered by running out of fuel therefore as long as you're not hitting fuel, you're supplying enough fuel and can do no wrong to your engine, THIS IS WRONG. Like already mentioned by defiant and several others, fuel cut is strictly triggered by air flow ONLY, it's there to guard against a drastic increase of air flow, ie. boost leak, boost creep, run away boost....etc. You can still run lean without hitting fuel cut and do great damage to the motor, my suggestion is to turn the boost down to 16psi until after the fuel system and turbo is upgraded.
