Do you think 17" rims with 205/40/17 tires would look to small on a 2g (lowered on sportlines)? My tires are shot on my car on the stock rims, and my friend offered to sell me a set of rims and tires that he uses to have on his car for $400. The rims and tires have maybe 6 months of use on them (RS Limited Ricochet Rims and yokohama tires), then he decided to go back to his stock rsx rims. I was gonna trade my stocks with some other guy for some konigs, but decided against it. What do you guys think? Here is a pic of the rims

Will these low profile tires be more suceptable to wear because of this?

No, but if you were to compare a 205-40-17 and a 205-55-16 of the same make and speed rating, the 17 will wear faster. This is due to it being shorter, therefore, it has to make more revolutions than the 16 in order to cover the same area. Just checking nitto's website, it looks as if the 205-40-17 makes about 50 more revolutions/mile than the 205-55-16. It should be pretty close to the same with other manufacturers also. You should also keep in mind that your speedometer is going to register faster than you are actually going and miles will rack up a tad quicker because of the shorter tire.

Ya I did the tire calculation and its about a 5% differnce. It says my speedometer will read close to 64 when im actually going 60. No biggie tho. Just like my bike. When i installed different sprockets the speedometer reads 70 when im going 60. Its actually saved me from a few tickets. hah

It is not a safety issue. The average load rating of a 205-40-17 is between 1100-1200lbs per tire. That would be 4400-4800lbs on 4 tires which exceeds our minimum required rating for tires.

Good job on the math skills. Hell we could get some 155/80R13s to hold the car up as well. The max rating isn't for when the car is sitting still. It for situations like making a hard left hand corner. The right front would sure as hell have more than 1100lbs on it.
The rating is more like 1000-1100 on a good name brand 205/40R17. On the cheaper ones it's less. In most cases he would be fine, it's the panic situation and potholes that will be a problem.

Roads arent bad where I live. There are a few pot holes, but i know where they are. I still cant decide what to do. I know the rims will change the look of my car completely, and the color of the rims will compliment the color of my car. But right now im leaning towards the cheaper route of just buying the 2 new tires that i need on my stock chromes, and saving the rest to put towards a b16g :thumb:

I have 205/40/17's on my 98 Talon ES-i. I also have a tien basic damper kit. I have it adjust as high as I can get in for the winter but I will post a pic a little later tonight.

These are photos before the teins were installed. They look ok but the ride is rough and the tires look too skinny for the rims. These photos are from when i had an ebay sleave type coilover setup.

Those actually dont look bad. They look more like 18's to me. LOL. The tires look like they have a thicker side wall than other 205/40/17s that I have seen. Im gonna put the rims on tomorrow to see how they look. Ill try to get some pictures.

Well I decided to buy the rims and tires. I went to check them out and they are actually 215/40/17 and not 205 like i thought so it doesnt look bad. I love the way they look on my car. I think it changed the look of my car completely. The only problem is since the diameter of the wheel is smaller it lowered my car a little more so now my N1 scrapes when i go over a speed bump. Oh well. Gotta make sacrifices. LOL. Here are a before and after picture. What do you guys think?
