2002 Eclipse stereo problems

2002 eclipse with a noise coming from the drivers door speaker and one day driving down the road it caught fire. The door was a complete loss and burnt all the wiring up so I replaced the door with one off another eclipse. The noise is back and while driving down the road I smelled a burnt wiring smell again so I put my hand by the speaker and it is very hot. Any ideas on what the problem may be or has anyone had this problem. Wiring? Amp? Headunit? Thanks for any information

Does it only happen when youve got the radio on? If so you have a wire shorted somewhere. Pull the panel and trace the wires. It may be in the cross over tube going from the door to the body. Check that and see what you find.

I agree, just go back check all the wires

all of that was new when I put the new door on and it did it before with the old door Im confused I will check it out though I just couldnt see 2 doors with the exact same problem

there may be a grounding problem or a cut in the wires somewhere. I was doing an install a few months ago and noticed that my amp got really hot really quick and i noticed melting smells from the door aswell. So I cut everything off and redid all the wires and took out 1 or 2 grounds (on the high input) after that everything was fine.

dude, your 2002 isn't a DSM.

It is definitely a 12Volt power source shorting out. A speaker wire wouldn't do that kind of damage. I'd recommend getting full coverage insurance, let it burn down completely, then buy something else, like another DSM.

J/k, but you may check around and see if there are any recalls on the issue, or other forums related to 3g Eclipses where someone might know alittle more info.

Is this so he can go from having a reliable car with only one problem, to a car that will burn down for 10 more reasons than a shortcircuit, and may not make it home? I love dsm's but for reliability a 3G is a beast.

Thats like comparing a turd to diahrea, they are both bad, but diahrea is so hard to clean up. In this case Diarhea = DSM

O.k. +1 on not buying another DSM. Having one DSM is enough of a handful. However, if OP were to buy a nice 98' or 99' N/T DSM, that'd be alright. My Eclipse RS has been very reliable, and is completely bone stock. (Knock on wood) Although a turbo-diesel truck sounds better.
