I don't know if anyone else has bought this up or not.
I wanted to know how hard it would be to put an galant GSX tranny on to an GSX eclipse. the galant tranny has longer gears. and i've seen a eclipse do 182 MPH with the stock tranny. i think it will bolt to the engine with some work. but i don't know about the rear end or the center diff.
can anyone point me to what i need to know. thanks

i believe scott gray has gotten up to 184, but i remeber reading that hes gear limited. don't the galant gsx's have 2.0 nt motors? which would be the 4g63nt? I believe it does, cause i remeber hearing of people swaping it out for a 2.0T motor. So if im correct, which i might not be, but if i am then it will bolt right up. As far as doing 200mph or more, your gonna need a good amount of power to get up there. or just get the tre longer 5th gear, or the magnus dog box.

with a redline of 7k and stock wheels/tires, I calculate a max speed of 158mph

TRE's 25% better OD will get you to 197mph.

Isn't the actual rev limiter 7500 RPM? That's 211mph, then.

what you really need to ask yourself is:

"Will my car be stable at these speeds, or can I make it stable?"

Let's try, just for once, to see if we can have a nice, civil discussion.

That said, you are not going to ever see a normal street-worthy DSM ever[i/] kiss 200's nose.

Anything above 130 and aerodynamics will be a BIG part.

It is theoretically POSSIBLE, but you would need serious amounts of downforce to be stable.

If stable is the right word :p

Ya but don't put a wing on it or else people make fun of you

Man I've done 140 in a 1G( it had no rev limit). I can honestly say even on salt flats I wouldn't care to go any faster.

I think when they made the 1G they did testing at the upper limit of its speed they said "well...that'll do I guess..I don't think anyone is crazy enough to go that fast or try to push it faster..if they do, god help them"

Never rode a 2G that high. Actually.. I've never even driven a 2G.

I have taken my 2gAWD up to its gear limited(7541rpm) 173mph with lots of throttle left, did tis few years ago on a 18g turbo the s-afc said around 73% throttle..with longer 5th or higher redline I'm sure I could get close to 200mph..

Christ, i got 138 and i told myself id never do it again. 200mph? What would come over you that all of a sudden youd need to go 200mph?

It would take more than just a wing to be stable at those speeds.

I've been to 150, I honestly don't see why you would want a street car that can do 200.

I don't need to do it but its nice to know that you can.. When I go to the track lapping I usually hit close to 125mph several times in few minutes. The need for speed rises as you get used to driving fast..I have full suspension, tires, bushings etc and the car feels very stable at high speeds..

Aye but stable at 125 is a whole different ball game than stable at 200. There was another thread on this recently so you might want to try a search about stability at those speeds. It can be done, just make sure you do it as safely as possbile.

DSMs have a low Cd and frontal area so it'll need less power to reach crazy speeds than most performance cars. Power and drag aren't the problem here, it's stability. The aerodynamics on a DSM are definitely not built for going 200mph.

I wish there was a really long strip somewhere where the average person could go to test top speed. There really is no good way to see how fast your car can go. I know it's a bad idea to try in any circumstances without a lot of preparation but it would be nice to know.

The Galant GSX is a non-turbo 4G63. The bellhousing on the tranny mimics that of the non-turbo DSM's for fitment. Thus, you'll need to run a NT flywheel and clutch. You'll also need the 2.8 ratio rear diff that matches it.

I've got two, but they are not for sale. :D

i got up to 137 in my old 95 mustang...on a back road....a week after i got my liscence...blew 2 stop signs.......it was by far the dumbest thing ive ever done in my life....i want to go back in time and beat the shit outta myself and my old car for attempting it

You could start by undertraying the car.

I'm working on that, as time allows..

you guys ever seen that rx7 doing 200 on the salt flats, and then all of a sudden it just lifts off the ground and flips a couple of times? its would be kinda like that, defintly need lots of down force,

sure they are, with a little help...

ive seen stock do 170 without much faltering. the inside of the cabin was jittery though.

Just wondering, you guys saying you've seen speeds of 150+ in DSM's, are these speeds GPS/Laser verified?

Yes, we use the equipment from the rocket factory, where we're all scientists. Buddy-up with us, and we might let you try it as well. Maybe.

Ive hit 150-160 in my 2G N/T eclipse, BUT that was flat out headding down the cajon pass, which is a very long and STEEP downhill grade that runs from the High Desert to San Bernardino. This was on a 100$ car as well, but i guarantee on a straightaway the most ive ever hit was about 140 and that was with a long ways to wind it up. Either speed the car seemed to glide more than it actually drove, and when i touched the wheel there was very little response. This was done only once in the first week i owned the vehicle, i felt i needed to test the limits of the vehicle before modding it so i knew what i was working with.

(Before you flame me i did this experement at about 4am......the pass is DESERTED at that time, and its a 4 lane divided highway to boot. didnt want to endanger anybody besides my own dumb ass.)

Well, my tires arent stock, i forget the brand but they BARELY held me down, that and the RPM's were almost redlined, even going down hill.... (I need a turbo...) :dsm:

american street or highways arn't designed for that speed...and why would u want to anyways...most to all cars cant go over 145 cuase of electronic limiters by the company
