hey guys

well, i'm about to put an (unported) evo3 16G on my 2G.. ordered most of the parts over the weekend.. but i ordered 2" intercooler piping. now i'm thinking that was stupid.

what does everyone else think? i'm shooting for about 300whp... and i have a 2.5" exhaust which i intend on keeping (this is why i got 2" intercooler pipes... )

let me know what you guys think... i'm thinking about sending it all back, but it it really worth it?

thanks

edit:
oh, and i'm hooking them up to a johnny racecar 8" FMIC (i chose 2.5" in/out incase i decided to upgrade....)

i think you'll be fine. you dont have all the supporting mods yet to be needing 2.5" or 3" IC piping. 2" IC piping should flow more than enough for an E316G turbo and JRFMIC 8".

hey
that makes me feel better :)

by the way, i have 580's and a 190lph in the mail

my reasoning was that the exhaust will be so much hotter, and that's only 2.5.. why would i need 2.5 on the cold side also

any more opinions welcome :)

thanks

Exactly at what point do you need to have bigger piping? I have a 90 tsi w/ mods in profile and i have my gm maf-t in my stock piping. I know if i go to larger piping i will see a gain, but is it signifigant enough that the stock piping is creating such a restriction? On top of that im probably not going to be tearing the head off any time soon (to change cams) but when i do, will i net that much of a gain w/ larger cams compared to auto cams? (sorry but its been a while since i had my first talon which had the original 5speed motor)

i cut the j-pipe and made a 2" elbow that points to the driver side. i then used a 2-2.5" reducer and went 2.5" after that, all the way to the fmic, and 2.5" to the TB elbow.

it prolly wont make a difference since, like has been said, the air is hotter and less compressed. id do 2.5" after the fmic though, just so its the same diameter throughout the cold side to give you better flowpath with less turbulence.

Think of it this way, the biggest and baddest Intercooler Kits all come with 2.5" IC piping.
Like SBR's Race kit.

yeah, true
i'm probably woulda been fine, but i ended up calling the people on ebay that i ordered a lot of my stuff from. they hadn't shipped yet, so i went ahead and changed my order to 2.5. now i just have to exchange my shit from jegs for 2.5

i figured i might as well do it right the first time... and i was also thinking that i believe my stock shit is 2.5....

anywho, thanks for viewing guys
