2.5 or 3 inch?

Im gonna go down to the muffler shop today and get a price quote on a new catback, but i was wondering if i should get 2.5 or 3 inch. I plan on doing most of stage one eventually.

Will there be a major sound differnece?
What about performance?

u get boost creep w/ 2.5 inch too...if ur so worried about it... PORT YOUR SHIT, or get an o2 dump...or get rid of it the right way by tuning. just get a 3 inch, ull regret it in the future.

Yea go 3'', you will wish you did. Also get an external O2 dump, they sound sweet as hell and cure all boost creep.

I know everyone on these forums will say 3" under any circumstances. However, I have a 2.5" exhaust and I love it. I have all the performance I need and it is quieter than a 3" no matter what anyone tells you. People are often surprised at how quiet my exhaust is considering I have an aftermarket exhaust with a larger muffler. Of course my muffler is only about 3", so that definitely helps keep the noise down. I can cruise just fine at 85+ on the highway without the noise getting excessive. Most of the time I have my windows down too. Don't worry, it still sounds excellent under WOT. The best 4 cylinder exhaust note I have ever heard.

I say get a 3", might get boost creep, might not. I have 3", but still have a cat and have no boost creep. And i'm ready for any mods i can want later If i got a test pipe perhaps i would. Oh and a o2 dump will NOT cure all boost creep, just a heads up if u think thats all u need when u get bad boost creep. My friendgot his exhaust, test pipe, and had boost creep pretty bad, but that was on his t2small...haha. We ported out his wastegate and got a bigger flapper and that fixed it. The flow after the wastegate (o2 housing) is secondary to the wg itself. I remember there was a great post about it somewhere, i'll look for it, its a good educational read

get rid of cat....eithe rport the shit out of a 2g o2 housing or buy a 2.5 inch o2 housing with a dumptube. by having an o2 dump, it will help fix ur boost creep problems.

You will probably want a 3" cat, I'm assuming that's what you mean when you say leave the cat. An exhaust will only flow as much as the greatest restriction will allow it too. And it is very true that an 02 dump will not remove all creep, creep is also dependant on the size of the wastegate opening, you can have a 3" pipe off your wastegate dumping into the atmosphere but if the wastegate can't physically control the boost then the dump won't help.

So i went to the muffler shops today... 235 fot a cat back 3 inch with a flowmaster and a nice tip. Only problem is that its not mandrel bent, cause no1 in town has a bender. How much of a performance cut would non mandrel bent exhaust give me?

if it's krinkle bent then you would be looking at some serious turbulance, if it is bent so that the inside bend radius makes the diameter of the pipe smaller then you won't be too bad. You have to figure that the inside diameter of that radius will be that biggest restriction in the 3 inch part of your exhaust, while the bends are smooth they will still impede flow. The only way to say it is, measure the inside diamter at one of these bends, you will then know what size exhaust you are running, being that you cannot possibly flow more than the largest restriction will allow.
