1st gear speed top out?

i have a 91awd trans in a 91 fwd talon, i notice today after the swap that the top out my first gear was around 15-18mph @6000+rpm, isnt that just to short, before the swap it was around 35-40mph @6000+RPM, I know that is not the clutch because in other gears it grabs hard still and plus its a new mitsu clutch kit. Is it supposed to be that short, if not whats wrong, clutch slipping in first gear?

when u change the tranny how did they connect the rwd it has to do with your actuall gear go were they installed it they might have to pull it apart again

Actually, they ARE that much shorter. Mine tops out at 20-25mph @7K. It's to provide the extra torque that the AWD tranny needs to get all four wheels moving. It's also why the GS-Ts get so much better gas mileage, and have a higher total top speed... the taller gear ratio follows through across the entire set, letting you cruise freeway speeds at a lower average rpm. I'm tempted to ty to get the FWD ratios once my tranny comes up for a rebuild, just to save a good bit of cash in the long run. :b

That or just find a '90 GS-T to use as a runabout, and set up the GSX as track-only.

i would think its because the gears are shorter...but 15mph seems a lil too short...
