Well last week, I started my SSAC FMIC install. I hadn't really seen a sticky for the 1gb... but of course, it doesn't really differentiate from the 1ga.

I purchased this kit from Ebay for what I thought was a steal. The kit came pretty quickly (about a week), all sealed up and packaged nicely. This was the long route piping, I didn't want to hack up the body just to get a pipe to go through.

After checking to make sure all the pipes and couplers were there, (of course, i was missing a coupler), I removed my UPIC pipe, turbo intake pipe, and SMIC and MAF sensor. At this time, I also jacked the car up and removed the front passenger tire, in order to removed the SMIC. Remove the tire and inner fender (the vented one behind the SMIC). Just to make it easy while I was there, I also removed the plastic ducting in front.

I removed the front bumper, and then wanted to do a little cleaning, because this is what I was left with:

After the bumper and bumper support beam (removed the 4, 14mm bolts - 2 on each side) and mocked up where I wanted to place my FMIC. I made sure that no coolant or power steering lines were touching the FMIC.

After I made sure about the lines in front, (I didn't want to cut or cap off anything because I wanted to keep the a/c and p/s), I placed the intercooler.

I measured the intercooler pipe going to my 2g throttle body elbow. Getting that pipe through the hole isn't going to work, unless you enlarge it. I plan to use a plasma torch to open this hole up.

I stopped here because it started raining like it always does in Oregon. I'll be finishing up the install this week of the FMIC, as well as dropping in my JDM 4g63 engine I just picked up from an importer. So close to driving my car for the first time in 2.5 years.... :thumb:

Here's a pic of the engine installed already, just for a teaser....

Havent fit the crash beam back on, but i'm almost 95% positive that the crash beam will need a little trimming.

Yeah, and there has been many a debate about using that beam. I'm just got rid of it... im sure I could modify it...

well because of the hotside pipe being infront of the intercooler you would have to hack your beam to the point where it is pretty much useless. mine is perfectly fine without it and no sag at all, if you want pics let me know

twack i go to smu in winowhere ... i was wondering if you could show me your car because i am purchasing the same kit and want to see how you installed it on your car.

Here are some pics of the installed FMIC. The pipe fitment was ok, but I wanted something a little cleaner, so I did a little rewelding of some pipes. Oh, I had to install a external oil cooler as well, since this jdm engine was internally oil cooled.

Should have the car up and running by next monday. By the way, no crash beam with this setup.

Yeah, unfortunately the 1ga doesn't have the metal part in the middle. I'm thinking this part will help with the sag of the bumper that the 1ga's get when they delete the crash beam.

I got the kit off ebay for $149+$50 shipping. The core is real nice. The pipes are nicely chromed but a little to intricate & "bendy" in my opinion. That's why I kind of modified them.

You know me... Rebelling! :rocks: That's why I bought a DSM. :D

hey im just wondering how easy it going to be to put back in your air intake pipe? looks a little crowded there

im getting this same kit but if i buy a gm maf with the maf translator this would take care of that problem. right? bc i have a dejon tool intake pipe so i dunno if it will fit after this install

Very nice :thumb: , after you're done, re-organize the content and pictures, turn it into a tech article.

Drated you should trun your t clamps around and face down so you can easily adjust them without having to take off the bumper, i know the hard way. Like i said i got this kit and im going to be trying out maft on it, not sure if anyone has done that witht his kit but should happen in the next weeks.

Yeah, i'm going to re-organize the pics after I get everything installed.

The MAF and filter are a little hard to get back in. Wiggle or loosen up some pipes to get it back in.

Thanks for the tip on the clamps.

looks damn good for the money LOL

I have an SSAC unit on my talon, I just welded some tabs top and bottom and self tapped them in. Its rock solid OMG

Its pretty sturdy. The only bad part was that I had to make longer mounting brackets for the bottom because the ones they sent are too short.
