1GA HID head lights

I read through a couple threads but I couldn't really find the info I was looking for because the threads were so old.

I was wondering if anyone made a plug and play HID kit for a 1GA dsm. Or what you guys are using to make the HID kit work? What head lamps? Is there any wiring required? Any help would be appreciated.

The reason for a retrofit is because most headlights will cause a blinding glare with the pnp kits out there.

I believe that most people doing this conversion go with the Hella headlighta and some HID kit. Personally I wouldn't go that route, as mentioned in one of those threads I think you read already HiD is not really designed for standard headlights but rather for projectors and you would end up attracting the police's attention (I believe retrofitting to HID headlights on car that didn't have it from the faxtory is illegal) or annoy the incoming traffic. If you could fit two separate projectors for high beam and low beam in the pop up housing now that would be nice, just one projector with hi-lo beam HID wouldn't cut it for me.

link has too many 'http' in it and referring to 1Gb, OP is asking specifically of 1Ga conversions. There was another member here that did a projector conversion but can't find it right now.

If one does a true retrofit, once the cutoffs are set, it won't blind oncoming traffic. It's when you just have a blue(or whatever color spectrum one gets ) glare that gets attention.

Link fixed. That would be cool to see it done on popup lights. I'll look over on Hidplanet and see what I can come up with

Where can I get he Hella headlights from? What causes it to be too bright? I have a set of HIDs in my camaro and they don't have projectors and they work perfect.

This place sells the correct and needed lamps and hid kits for a 1ga. Its here in the forums about it and this is the route I plan on taking when the time comes. Need the 4x6 rectangle lamps I believe.

Search for hella conversion housings. The sealed beams are pretty standard size and can be replaced. The aftermarket "unsealed beams" are then retrofitted however you see fit.

But yes, please do a proper retrofit (be it hacking up original housings or buying new ones) the end result is so much better, for people on both sides of your windshield.

He lost a lot of credit by avoiding the use of projectors.

I would get the H4 (if that is indeed the size you need) housings from sharp HID and the actual lights/projectors etc... from theretrofitsource.com

Unfortunately the pictures are not showing anymore but if I remember correctly this guy had double projectors on a 1Ga. He was working on a kit but I don't believe he went through with it. Hopefully he'll chime in.

Your stock housings are "reflector" type housings. They're output is poorly aimed enough even with stock halogen bulbs. When using HID capsules, the lightsource is more intense ( note: not necessarily brighter. I.E. anything over 5000k is a waste of time with 4500k, being the closest to natural sunlight). The intensity of the capsule "throws" more light around the housing not designed to reflect this kind of light source. The end result is an ever annoying and frankly unsafe glare.

"Projector" housings act like a magnifying glass and focus the light in a more direct and uniform manner. There is also a metal shield installed in the lense itself. It produces a nice clean line, above which no light is distributed. This is called the cutoff. You absolutely need this type of lense to run an hid capsule effectively. I could also care less about the argument everyone makes about properly aiming reflector type housings and 8000k+ capsules work fine. They don't. 4500k and projector housings or don't bother.

So the Hella housing that were posted above are the projector housings that are need to run HID bulbs?

You can always do a bi-xenon with the retrofit process to solve the issue of duals or losing HI.

No problem. If you go with this setup, get the harness. You may have to extend a wire or two, but soldering and heat shrinking isn't hard, especially if it's just to extend a ground wire or something.

Install was easy, and I am very pleased with the outcome.

Yes, I believe that is the harness.

Technically you don't need it, you could just put spade connectors on the ends of 3 different wires, but the harness just makes everything cleaner and simpler.

This is the set I had, and used a h4 hid setup from sharphid. Was great, and nobody flashed me either.
