Here's what I know, fluid is pumped turn a fliud couple turns the driveshaft.

I have a 91' Talon TSI AWD that I'm building as a daily driver with some track use (Solo 2 and Drag), and possibly some light towing. I know this is a lot to ask of any 1 transmission, towing and drag racing being opposite ends of the spectrum. Here's what I "think I need" (any input is greatly appricieted, good, bad, and even cynical laughs):

1. some sort of lsd, Phantom grip says they have one that works.
2. external transmission cooler (how big)
3. trans temp guage
4. Heavy duty clutches
5. modified valve body
6. some way to manually control shift pressure

Now for all the unknowns:

1. What internal parts need to be replaced, hardened, etc. (been to your site and see you make a number of parts that replace the stock ones)
2. What do I need to check, replace on the transfer case (factory defect, I read but didn't really understand, and to deal with the added stresses)
3. Is there any way possible that I could due this work myself, I have the factory manual and have worked on cars all my life, just never transmissions. (special tools that a regular a mechanic wouldn't have)

Engine output should be between 350-500 HP (350 easy with engine mods. , 500 if my ideas on super cooling intake charges work.)

I'm planning on doing this in stages with stage 1 being inside the transmission case, eletronics will have to come later.
 
Well first off, unless you have a FWD, a limited slip is really going to be unnecessary. There is an AWD car running nines with an open front differential.

Secondly, you really need to pick a direction for your vehicle, you are not going to be able to daily drive at 500 horsepower and these vehicles are totally inappropriate for almost any type of towing.

Also, the rebuilding of an automatic transmission, especially for performance use, is best left to an expert.

I have been in the transmission business for almost 20 years, and even there I would guess that only about 10% of all trans rebuilders have enough of a clue to be competent with all of the stock transmission rebuilding that they are required to do.

As far as these transfer cases, they are pretty reliable. There aren't really any upgrades other than replacing parts inside of them if they should decide to break.

I as I tell everyone, I can supply them with the best available transmission parts, but that is no guarantee that the finished product will be what it should be. The quality of the finished product depends more on the workmanship than the parts that are used.

Thanks for the responce. The LSD wasn't for drag racing, but to keep from spinning a tire in a corner. So, is the front locked to the rear, or is there a clutch in between. The 500 HP was from theoreticaly from lowering the manifold inlet temp. to ambient and increasing O2 content of inlet fluid (similer to N2O but not), realistically I probably destroy something from the temp. differental. I understand 500 HP is not streetable, the 350ish just from engine modifications is at edge of streetable, in my opinion (have a real heavy foot). I just wanted it capable, if I dedicated it to a track. I didn,t really think this would be a good canadate for towing but I thought I'd ask.
What parts do I need to make it survive 500 HP. If it's overbuild I'm going to have a harder time breaking it.

I have been a mech for about 6 years 5 of which I was ceritified, and 3 of which I was working with a transmission expert. Manual trannies are simple and can be easily mastered, but even with 3 years of non stop tranny work and the fact that Im ford master certified (including any and all tranny certs) I still think about rebuilding my dsm tranny and scratch my head. With all my experience, which is limited when compared to most, I still would get mine done by a more experienced professional.
