All 1g wheel and tire size questions from the newbie sections are merged here.

hi,
i am interested in putting 18" motegi MR-7 wheels on my 1991 plymouth laser. my only problem is i do not know if they will fit in the wheel well with tires. if anyone out there has 18" wheels on their laser....please let me know so and also tell me what size tire you have on the wheel. i would also like to know how snugly they fit in the wheel well. if 18's dont fit i guess i will have to go for 17 inch wheels. what is a good size tire that would fit a 17" wheel?

thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me

jerome

The answer is simply, NO.

I would expect atleast a 8.5-9 inch wide tire. I barely squeezed 225's on a 17x7 and the 235's are pretty snug on the 17x8.

hey i was wondering if stockEVOVIII wheels would fit on a 99gsx . . . i need tires for the track and my friend said he would lend me his off his evo . . . they are 235's as opposed to my 215's . . . any comments ? :dsm:

well ill just be using it for the track . . . ¼ mile, not really much turning . . . my main concern is - - - is it going to rub the inside wall of the fender ???

my mistake fellas . . . my bad for the mis understanding and lack of clarity . . . i did mean wheels - - - the stock wheels, rims and tires take mine off, slap them on his, take his off, slap them on mine - - - hope that clears things up a bit

thanks a lot guys - - - ill let you know how my run went . . . from the list of mods . . . what should i be running @ 22psi ???

 bench racing. go to the dyno and figure it out. or search for guys with your similar setup and see what they ET's they run or what they dyno at.

Hey guys, well im looking for some new 17 inch tires. I currently have 215/40/17's which are bald. I am mostly on the street and dont do alot of racing. I am wondering if i should just buy normal tires, and then if i decide to go to the track buy two slicks? What are your opinions? I dont know alot about tires, and tire setups? If i do go to the track do i need 4 slicks? or just 2? Cause i am fwd.
What tires, size do you guys reccomend for a decent price and for what i need them for? thanks.
Oh and my rims are Ace Monaco's. Dunno how wide and stuff i can go. Need as much help as i can get.

First off how wide are your rims? Do you want to go with an All Season or a straight summer/performance tire.

Well if you go with street tires I recomend yokohama avs es 100's, they are great tires, and a good price for them on tirerack.com. As for slicks, you only need two being fwd a nice pair of either 15 or 16 inch tires would work fine, you would have to get some racing rims which are not very expensive for somewhere like Summit racing.

yeah i am looking for just a summer/perofrmance tire for a good bargain. like i said i dont do alot on the track. so maybe is it a good idea to just get some cheap tires, and then spend some money and get some good slicks for the track? so i need special rims for the tires for the track then? cant use the stockers?

You can use the stock rim, but then you have to have a slick that fits that size rim. A lot of peolpe tend to use smaller slicks, as in a 15/16. Also if you get a set of tires for the street (the yokohama are good tires for a good price) then unless you have a set of spare rims laying around you have to remount the tires every time you race, and driving around on the slilcks is not recomended. So a different set of rims for the slicks would be optimum, maybe even find a cheap set of two stock rims from a dsm that came with 16" rims, the trader probably has those floating around, you might have to buy all four but I can't imagine the price being too high. Also though a racing rim would weigh significantly less then a stocker, which is another advantage.

I love my yoko AVS es 100s the tread wear is great, wet traction is awesome, and dry traction is awesome as well. I dont think i will buy another type of tire unless i find or hear of something better for the price. Good luck on your decision. PS check out my web page if you wanna look at the tread patter, webpage is in my profile.

I have fwd and i need traction but i wont be using these at the track cause i am gonna be buying to slicks. but do you think this size and these tires are okay?

or other reccomendations for something not so expensive?
or these? 215/40/17

Well i need a new set for just the street. mine are ####ed. and i have to buy 2 slicks for when i go to the track.

Since you need traction, Im assuming you are drag racing. With a 205, sidewall will be stiff and gear ratio will be reduced. anything with a stiff sidewall will never hook at the track. And the lower gear ratio will be great for N/A but a drawback for a turbo. Why dont you just save and invest in some cheap steelies and drag radials.

By the way, link doesnt work

Edit: my bad, I thought you were using for the track but I reread. Still, a 205-40 is still a little too short. I run 235-40-17 with an eibach pro kit drop and this is how it looks. I either need to go lower or a slightly taller tire.

does the 205-235 number matter for fitting on my rims? cause ive had 215 on there. i think i will go for the 215's unless i can get a good deal on something bigger? does that seem like a good price for the kumho's? where a good pleace to get some cheap slicks?

i have always loved these wheels and i see them selling on ebay for decent prices for both wheels and tires, also if i get them i plan on doing something with the centercaps so they dont have the infiniti logo. my question is will they fit? i know theyre the same bolt pattern, but i dont know what the offset is, also they are 18x 8 with 225/45 on front and 245/45 on back.

The auction is over. I hope it wasn't you that won them.

Diameter is too big and with AWD, you need the same size front and back.

how bad will it affect my talon if i put 15"s on it instead of the 16" the 15 are p205/60r15
(basically how far off will my spedo be once i put them on? will it be faster or slower and how much ruffley thanks)

Prolly about 5 mph at 60 so if ur sppedo says ur goin 65 ur prolly doin like 60 or somewhere in that area. i could be wrong. :talon:
