Went to replace the 1st and 2nd synchros in a 1992 FWD Turbo Transmission and I found the 2nd gear synchro is wider and has some type of material on the inside face.

When I was on Jacks website to order them they listed the Large single Synchro for 90-91 and the double synchro for 93-99. I figure you could end up with either in 92 (like 6 bolt vs 7) so I assumed since it was just a single piece that I needed the Large single one. Unfortunately, when I looked closer as I was putting it together the 2nd is wider (.402" vs .321") and has material on the inner face.

Tried doing some quick research but didn't find anything. Hopefully someone has run into this before. If not I'll try to do some more research. If someone has a link to a 92 trans service manual that would be great. Really hoping this isn't an NLA part but guessing that is a good possibility.

Unfortunately I can't speak for the 92FWD trans, but I do know the synchro with the organic material is the first revision and was later revised to the stronger brass bronze version.

Unfortunately no PN for the double syncro

Here is FWD with single synchro 9205.3, so up to May 92 week 3

It's a bit odd that the date selections for part number selection only goes to June 90 for the single syncro:

well this seems to indicate that the 1st and 2nd do NOT use the same synchro like they it says on jacks transmission's website. So I'll see if I can find out more about the MD734842. Thanks for posting this I really appreciate it!

Is CAPS something that everyone can get to or do is it just a Dealer program/website?

Caps is old. It has been replaced by ASA long ago. Anybody can get it via Google search or a site search.

I think they are interchangeable, but no idea why they are listed as different part numbers.

Sent you a PM.

I personally like good fibre lined synchros. I cut a diagonal slot in them to help get oil out. I also face them down to clear double synchro springs.

the ones you show are basically interchangeable. In my customer builds I use the gvr4 first syncro since it's short and clears double springs without machining. FWD/AWD is interchangeable here too. Tim has published many lists of parts on here over the years. Find them.

Came across this thread and realized I never updated it. Incase anyone else runs into this issue I went ahead and just installed the new synchro since bastarddsm had stated they were basically interchangeable and the transmission has been working great for over a year at this point. Prior to this it would grind into 2nd and in the end I was having to hold the shifter in 2nd or it would pop out.
