That's no Evo, its a Mirage with an Evo body kit and a 1.6L 4G92 MIVEC swap. The guy lives down in Texas and posts at Mirageforums.com I dunno why he only has the passenger side racing seat. His car is beautiful, nice motor too.

BTW Roadrace sells the Evo style power vents. I only saw them in c/f though.

well, I just picked up the aluminum sheets today to start making the pre-mold mock up, havent started on it yet though, I'll start on it tonight, then when I get it finished I'll go find a hood at a junkyard to victimize for it, he he, that is a nice car anyway, even if its not an Evo, as for the power vents, I'll make some myself for the time being, it should all come together fairly fast, but dont expect me to have it done fully before the end of the month for the first one(additional ones will be easier since I can take a mold from the first one) has to warm up a bit more too for me to want to go the junkyard, anyway, thanks for all the comments guys, and the interest, I'll keep you updated as things go along

tell me about it!! man this upstate NY weather BLOWS! the tranny on my mirage died on the way home from work today. It was about 200 ft from my driveway, but on a slight incline. impossible to get a good grip with all the snow, not to mention the cold temps.

Well just an idea, and i dont know how it would look, prolly funny as hell but what if you could use another hump like the one on the driver side and mold it into the passenger side and somehow work your vents into that, i kno just thinkin bout it sounds funny but i dont kno how it would look if done right and a lil custom work to modify them to flow with the car..i dunno, just a thought.

well, I finished the basic aluminum mock up pre mold today, havent put it on the car yet but so far it looks good, just have to get a hood I can put it on and mold it to now, which of course is the hardest part, but it shouldnt be that difficult, will take me a couple days though, after I get the hood....and it will probably be saturday at least before I can get the hood, anyway, just keeping you guys up to date(this is the EVO type mold by the way)

been working more on the aluminum mock up mold and it just keeps getting better, I cant wait till I find a hood to mold it on to now, I think its going to look really good, for it to work right though I'm going to have to cut the bump out of a hood, for two reasons, the first being that it will interfere with the lines of the scoop, and more importantly I need to open up(skin) the hood so air can flow in and out(though I wont cut the hood bracing, dont want to weaken the structure) if anyone in my area has a spare hood lying around I'll buy it from you(junkyard prices though I'm afraid, I dont have a huge amount of money)I'm just eager to keep this project moving along, I wish I had a digital camera so I could show you guys how good it looks even in the crude stage its in. Next step I get to use Bondo and mold it all to a hood and smooth out all the kinks, then I will be able to fiberglass over it and complete it. Once complete I will be able to take fiberglass castings and apply them to other hoods for those of you who want this hood, you guys will be able to buy just the casting to mold to your hood on your own or by your body shop if you want as well(though you'll have to cut away the hump for sure, as well as some of the metal on the top of the hood if you want it functional) I dont think it would be too hard for you guys to do, though it does take work and patience, any way, if there are any other types of scoops you'd like to see, post them here or PM me and I can custom make them for you(afer I get this hood rolling though) and you'll have to provide the hood for any custom work you want done, sorry about the long post, its just neat making a new product sometimes

havent tried carbon fiber yet, I would bet though that its harder to work with than fiberglass from what I have read since you have to pay all sorts of attention to the grain, after I get the hood going I will start messing around with carbon fiber and see how well I do with it(I might be able to do a carbon fiber layer over fiberglass? I dont know, I'll have to see) anyway, I'm still waiting to go to the junkyard to find a hood to make the mold with(I dont want to irrevocably damage mine if it doesnt work the way I plan) but like I said, the mock up looks great and I just need a hood to mess with now(junkyard visit this weekend if I can manage it)

Well I personaly like the first one the best.. and the 2nd one on the 13th post however i dont think that would would look good in real life.. and they already exsist for camaros etc. but most are non-funtional.. i have seen some.. and i hated them..

Man you should try to get some sponsership... get some drafting progs and build them on there then print them out with demintions and show them to a few companys that might be intrested..

I rather like the first one myself, more so the more I look at it, I might make one of those too to see how it comes out, but your right I should get sponsorship or something, I can draft after all, I just learned the old way, on paper, though a CAD program shouldnt be too hard to figure out, I'm surprised they dont already make hoods for the 1g, since there is such a large interest

no kiding it's a completely un-taped market.. i was wondering last night if i could make one from some alumenum (as a wire frame sora speak) paper and clay.. since bondo would cost to much.. .. you know make it from paper then cover it in a smooth layer of clay.. bake it in the sun or something and paint it..

(or just do like i said with a drafting prog and look for a company that will make custom body parts from fyberglass.. )

If you want a good material to make a mock up out of, go down to your local newspaper, they usually have these thin sheets of aluminum they use for some reason in the printing process(warning, one side of these sheets is covered with nasty printers ink) anyway, its 75 cents a sheet, like a 2'x4' sheet and works great for mock ups, however its not all that rigid, so you have to reinforce it to make a mold out of it, I have a way I reinforce it, but just about any way you can come up with will work, anyway you will have to use some bondo to get it into its final form to take a cast or molding from

I tried getting a spare hood from the junkyard this weekend, but as luck would have it, after driving 40 minutes, I find out that they are closed on Sundays!, what kind of junkyard is closed on sundays? when do they think people go to them? during the week when they have work and school? but anyway, I would have a hood to start molding it to if they werent closed, after I get paid on Thursday I will try again, I took the mock up yesterday out to kinda test fit on my hood on my eclipse(as much as I could anyway because the bump was in the way) and it looked good, however I must have measured wrong because as it is it wont clear the pop ups, which is no big deal, I just have to cut a bit of metal away(heck, I could even mold it onto the top of the pop ups if I really wanted and cut it so they would open fine) but so far so good guys, its turning out to be more of a pain to get the hood than the rest of the project is going to be, now I have a question for you guys, do you want the edge of scoop to blend into the hood slowly like the bump does or do you want it more defined, like say a honda hood....with easily defined lines(do you want a sharp edge or smooth?)?
