The trim pieces above my passenger and driver doors, have faded and peeled away badly after many years of having it parked in the sun. I started to peel away and strip the trim to bare metal, but noticed that these upper window trim pieces are not painted like the other trim pieces around the car. They seem to have a really thick coating on them that is really hard to sand off, or peel off. I was planning on sanding them to bare metal and then painting them properly, but that might not be feasible in this case.

I came across new upper window trim pieces at Machv(Link). Does anybody know how well these fit from Machv, or of another place to buy new ones that you recommend? Might also try Mitsubishi tomorrow or Monday.
Thanks for all the help

Wow.. That's expensive, $70 per trim. I refurbed mine with a razor blade, 600 sand paper and trim paint. The coating is rubber so sanding or paint stripper will not work. Use the razor blade and outline the trim. Peel the rest of the rubber like an orange peel with a razor. Sand the surface with 600 grit and paint with trim paint.

Why don't you get them off and then send them to get sand blasted. After that you can either paint them or powder coat them.

Thanks for all the quick replies and really good ideas guys. The coating on mine does not come off with peeling or a razor. I just took a grinder to both of them, same grinder that I used to port my turbo. It worked, just had to be really gentle and fast. If you kept grinding in one spot for more then a second, the grinder warps and burns through the metal. You also have to be very careful when removing the plastic trim pieces at the ends of the upper window trims if you plan on reusing them. I do not think they sell them separately.
Thanks again for the help

EDIT: By the way, I took the upper window trims off before I attempted to do any of this. After I took the upper window trims off, I proceeded to take off the plastic trim pieces at the ends of the upper window trims. The next step is to prepare and paint both the metal and plastic parts of the upper window trims separately, and then put them back together before installation.
